Direct scientific evidence to explain the positive effects of collagen supplementation in humans is still lacking.

There is still insufficient knowledge about which type of collagen peptides (marine, porcine, bovine etc.) exerts the most favorable effect. Moreover, not all collagen peptides may have the same effects in different kind of diseases, and, finally, the manufacturing process could also have an influence on the biological and physiological properties of collagen peptides and thus, their effectiveness.

Agreed, but indications are that it helps, and it's easy to add to your diet -- whether by simply eating a lot of jello and bone broth, or by mixing CH powder into a beverage.

Collagen is another example of a substance that we know is very important for bones -- it's one of the building blocks of bone -- but we don't have much evidence of positive effects from taking a supplement.

Fun fact: Vitamin D is essential for synthesizing collagen in the body. americanbonehealth.org/nutr...

Yes, that's the same study that Yogalibrarian referenced above. Definitely something to keep an eye on in the future.

I have to say that after the mad cow issues of not so recent years I am never planning to take any supplement which could be made from cattle bones and cartilage. I believe collagen supplements are also made from fish. However I assume the body knows how to create its own collagen from healthy foods.
