I was told i may be able to take a medicine to slow it down but because of my heart disease I will be limited to which medication I could have. How long is it after diagnosis before they start you on it. Also does this disease make you feel tired sometimes during the day. Thank you for your responses.

Welcome to the community. Regarding medications, check with your physician's office on dosage and when to start. Yes, daytime tiredness can be a symptom. Do you have a care partner (spouse, family member, friend) -- living with the disease is possible, and it's best to have a strong network for support!

All the best.

Thank you for your advice, yes my wife is my carer and I have family to help. Waiting for the memory clinic to contact me regarding starting medication.

Hi Graeme. It might be worth you looking into the work of Professor David Smith of Oxford university. He has done studies showing that supplementing with both omega 3 and B vitamins slows cognitive decline. There is a very good YouTube video of him presenting these findings. Also eating a brain healthy diet - the MIND diet or the Mediterranean diet. Prioritise sleep as this is when your brain detoxifies itself from metabolites built up during the day, and getting exercise also helps this (if you are able to manage this). Stress is very bad for the brain too, so anything that helps with that, like meditation, if you suffer from stress will also help. There are books by American neurologists Dale Bredesen and Richard Isaaacson you may find valuable too.
