Care giving 101

My husband love this site. He’s been in the prostate cancer group for years. He’s been stage 4 almost 4 years. I tried the caregiver site with no luck. But today I realized I need help. Here’s the whole story hopefully not to long to read. When Larry was diagnosed in 2016 my 88 yr old father in law let his guard down and let his dementia show. Since then Jim was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and has fallen and broke a hip. His 91 yr old wife is his full time caregiver but I have become their keeper as she calls me. I don’t know what to do. Drs yes, shopping yes, house keeping yes but the education and directions no. Her mind is overwhelmed and confused and he has never had a good diagnosis and health care. How do I make it all work.

Welcome to the community.

You are facing a complex situation. Suggest you contact your county Aging Services department (or equivalent in Canada and UK). They have case managers available who can direct you to local resources and help put a game plan together.

All the best.
