sleeping too much

my husband is in the early stages of alzheimers, however lately he seems to be sleeping earlier and earlier...also he is starting to jerk a lot in his sleep, and appears to be startled when sleeping...it scares the he'll out of me.Anyone experience this?

Sleep changes are common in people with Alzheimer's. A couple of suggestions:

(1) keep your home well-lit in the afternoon and evening to provide an environmental cue to stay awake.

(2) If your husband is able, encourage brisk walking and other exercise during the day - this can help with better nighttime sleep.
