I've heard a pitch that coconut oil (pure, organic, cold pressed) can assist in maintaining neurotransmitter effectiveness and brain health in the early statges of dementia.

Any one have any information on this topic?

I was told the same thing by a Nurse at my Mothers Doctor. I changed all her cooking oils for coconut oil and even use it when baking. I also buy her coconut water. You should eat more salmon and blueberries. Stay active and organize things so it's easy to recall.

On the suggest of my doctor, I tried coconut oil. You would think a natural oil would not cause any problems but I had terrible reactions. Trembling, itching, nausea, all kinds of side effects. I tried starting with a tiny bit o the oil but still could handle it but I know some people swear by it, but not me.

The recommended amount for therapeutic gain is 3 to 6 tablespoons a day. Fortunately, my husband loves the taste. I restarted giving this oil with this amount 3 months ago - on toasts, rice and in cooking. Last week, I have started 2 Ayurvedic herbs that have been recommended - black cumin seed oil and Ashwagandha, and Ceylon cinnamon powder in the night cap. I try to follow meals with lots of vegetables and min8mal carbohydrates since 3 weeks ago. In addition, 6 nightly LED photobiomodulation application since 9 weeks ago. He was diagnosed in Nov 2015. Last year, he could not walk more than 1hr and had no appetite. Since started the LED application, his appetite returned to normal and less wandering in the night. The Ayurvedic herbs have reduced his anxiety and made him more communicative. He is aware of his diagnosis and accepts the treatments to help recover.

The recent Summit on Alzheimer’s and latest updates in new management are very proming in reversing the conditions. Any function recovery will improve the quality of lives for both him and the family carers.

I infuse my coconut oil with cannabis that I grow. Works great. Does that count?
