In need of colonoscopy advice -

Good morning! I am scheduled for a colonoscopy and am concerned about the prep ingredients and sedation. My reaction to any glycol is not favorable on any level, and potentially life threatening. Can you offer any advice? Thank you greatly!

Hello,

To suggest your question: talk to your pharmacist about an alternative clean out and your insurance company so they will pay for it. I just went through one and did not want glycol and had to purchase the alternative then I talked to the insurance and they allowed it and I was able to get my money back, cost over $100. I don't know about the Sedation. Also a compound pharmacist can make a gel for the procedure free of glycol that might be helpful for you!

Thanks for this post. I live in Sweden and has the exaxt same problem. I must go through a colonscopi and possible surgery and have very severe reactions to glycols. My doctors doesn't know of any alternative for the prep. Do you know it's name or ingredienses, so I can find out myself? We don't have compound pharmacies hier witch makes it difficult. So greatful for you help.

Sorry, I didn't write the name down on my records. I asked the Doctor to give me 3 scripts to choose from, then I went to the pharmacists and asked to see them to look at the ingredients. Then I chose the one that didn't have PEG in it. They process the script and called be back to inform me the insurance was not going to pay for it. So I paid cash and went home and call the insurance company, told them why I needed that kind of clean out, and they approved it. I went back to the pharmacists and they ran the script through and I was able to get re-reimbursed.

Hope this helps you,

Jacquie

This post is old now, but someone can still use this info in the future. You can use magnesium citrate liquid instead of the nasty glycol junk. That's what I do. Full protocol here: manhattangastroenterology.c...
