There are many causes for head aches. I usually have a head ache when I am brewing up a cold. I used to have migraine type headaches caused by cheese, especially mature or cooked, coffee, alcohol, being over-tired or other forms of stress.

I treat headaches and any form of hangover, with essence of peppermint, sniffed over a period of 5 minutes or more. In severe cases, I swallow an oil of peppermint capsule.

If you are on anticoagulants you should at least speak to your GP if the headaches persist.

My advise is the same as Maggie13s. Xarelto warns of headaches as a sign of a possible brain bleed.

Dear Johnw you do not specify which medications you are taking. However, if you experience any adverse side effects that you are concerned with or are finding it difficult to cope with, I would always advise you to go and see your GP and ask for a review of your medications. It may be that you are not tolerant of a certain drug and a different medication may be an option for you but your GP will be the best person to give you advice regarding side effects. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the patient services team at patientservices@afa.org.uk.
