Cardioversion Update.

Hi everyone. Further to my post on 'Cardioversion Success rates ' I had my CV as planned, last Monday 14/4/24 , and it was a successful result after one shock. I didn't realise how Afib had been having such an adverse effect on me until my rhythm was reset back to normal. As I slowly recovered from my anaesthesia I could feel a difference in my heart rhythm, it was if i had been given an energy boost, upon checking my pulse in my wrist I could feel it was stronger and regular, I could even see my pulse pulsate slightly on my wrist where as before I had to put pressure on my wrist to even feel any pulse, and that seemed weak.

Alas after 48 hours I started to feel some irregularities in my heart rhythm again, extra/skipped beats sensation, they didn't feel the same or as regular as my constant Afib sensation, they were initially about two every minute then the next day they increased, varying from 2 up to 10 per minute . On checking my Kardia monitor the result stated 'normal sinus rhythm ' first such normal result displayed since I purchased the devise. On closer inspection of the displayed graphics I did notice between the normal paced qrs complexes there seemed to be episodes where there was an extra qrs complex with missing p wave.

So my initial delight relief has been some what diluted, my concern is, is this the onset of the recurrence of my Afib or is it some other arrhythmia development.

It would be helpful if forum members who have had similar experiences could explain what these extra beats are and is it possible they are early signs of the return of my Afib.

Thanks for any replies.

Sounds likely to be ectopic actiity which is very common in such cases. Try slow deep breathing. Use diaphragm not shoulders and slow to six or less breaths a minute for at least five minutes. Ectopic beats are largely benign but can be irritating . Best to try an ignore them whilst continuing to rest for a few more days to let you heart recover.

Not familiar with the ectopic beats, but you may be familiar CVs are not lasting for many. Hoping yours does.

Were you prescribed an antiarrythmic drug post-cardioversion which may help ?
