I take Apixaban and have taken Melatonin although I did not find it worked very wellThe only effective soporific that works for me is zopiclone and the GPs will only give you a a weeks supply at any one time and you cannot take them every night. But they do work.

I've taken a small dose of Zopiclone every night, for many years. Still a fairly normal person (I hope). Mind may be a bit dulled by them.Jean

Glad you have a more understanding GP than I have. Seven tablets and that is your lot for a few weeks.

Yep, I'm also only allowed 7 tablets a month. I cut them in half so I can take half three nights a week. I find that half gives me about 5 hours of reasonable sleep 3 times a week. I find that preferable to about 7 hours slightly less than twice a week.

Yes, I think most GP's will only hand out a few sleeping pills.

I've had dreadful sleeping problems since my early 40's and it would make me feel ill because of lack of sleep. Had pills on and off to help, then somehow now I can just re order and they're prescribed for me constantly. I think they do dull my mind but dread being asked to come off them. My mind is very active so it probably does need to be calmed. I take the very lowest dose of Zopiclone.

Have you tried taking Magnesium Glycinate1500mg before bed?

I take magnesium taurate about an hour before bed and it does help. I do have to be careful with it though as the recommended dose does cause some GI irritation.

Magnesium citrate used to make my stomach sore but I find the glycinate is fine.

Thanks for that Jean, I'll give it a try. What dose do you take?

I take 1500mg which provides elemental Magnesium of 300mg which is 80% of our daily need. I buy mine from Vitabright as their capsules don't contain any fillers.

I take Zopiclone too on a regular basis, and even though it helps me fall asleep fairly quickly (usually) I still wake every 2 or so hours. Go to the loo, even though I’m not bursting, I know if I don’t I won’t fall asleep again. Back in bed, sleep again fairly quickly… but up again in a couple of hours time! 😩

Only general anaesthetics knock me out completely. Since the menopause it’s a dead loss, no unbroken, restorative sleep

I only ever wake once in the night but I take magnesium glycinate a little while before the Zopiclone. Make sure you are completely emptying your bladder before bed, count up to twenty afterwards and then try again. A nurse told my neighbour to do this.

you are not alone. I can be so dead exhausted touch the bed and sleep but yes three hours later. I am up and about usually a trip to the bathroom then I need more water lol so three hours later the odds are pretty good. I am up again thinking of trying a humidifier if I can break the drinking water cycle during the night, would that help? My witching hour seems to be 3:20 AM. I never feel well rested

Gertsen Lot of info on the subject on the 'net. Would suggest you read and discuss with your doctor. The doctor may prescribe another sleep aid more appropriate for afib patients.

Have you taken it before? It only works for people whose brain functions in a certain way. And there will definitely be an it works or it's useless reaction. I know an autistic child on it, his parents got their first full night's sleep in six years once he was prescribed it. My friend who is definitely on the spectrum, it works for her also. She is bonkers, in a great way.

Pharmacy is best places to see if there are interactions. They are the drugs specialists

I actually give it to my dog. I don’t know if there is a difference between human and canine melatonin. He is 13 sometimes he is just really keyed up. This settle down eventually he will sleep, but it doesn’t knock him out he takes 6 to 12 mg. I have read several places that you are not to take it constantly so it’s not something to take when you go to bed every single night I’m so tired of pills. I have been sipping on my mushroom drink. I have mushroom coffee and Matcha. I find tea is good at night somewhat soothing. Have you tried a chamomile or some other soothing tea? I also find listening to something somewhat meditative helps I’ve just started doing that. I hope it keeps helping there is not much worse than feeling tired all the time.

just like everything check with your doctor because of your condition we are not cookie cutter cookies. We are all different. It may or may not work but make sure it’s OK for you with other meds you are on. No one knows better than your doctor. What you are taking

Have been taking melatonin for years. Taking Apixaban and Bisoprolol. This year the dose of Bisoprolol was increased so increased melatonin to offset the interference from Bisoprolol.

I use periodically Ancient Minerals Magnesium & Melatonin rub on cream. Has helped.

Melatonin actually hypes me up. I take tylenol PM (1/2 dose) to help me fall asleep. My heart doctors nurse said I could take one every night. I try not to take one every night but when I don't I have lots of trouble getting to sleep.
