2nd Abalation

I am scheduled for my 2nd abalation on Tuesday. It has been 12 months having my first RF abalation. I had no AF for about 9 months and then I had 2 episodes with each lasting a couple of hours. Then in January I had another short episode that lasted an hour. All episodes I took Flecainide which reverted me back to sinus rhythm. Also all episodes were while I was in bed resting.

I am nervous doing this again. I don’t cope well with anesthesia and get quite sick. Hopefully my second abalation will do the trick. This time it will be done using the fairly new Pulse Field technology.

Ablations often need repeating.I needed three over four years before my AF was terminated. Relax and remember to rest and stay well hydrated during recovery..

I didn't have anaesthetic so cannot comment on that.I hope the 'touch up' does the trick. Best wishes ❤️

I would skip the 2nd ablation and stay with flecainide. Your episodes are minimal. There is always risk with an ablation and the flecainide seems to be working well for you. I had my ablation 7 years ago and flecainide has done a good job for me. Lately I have added magnesium and that has really helped as well. If your episodes only last a couple of hours, then I think your risk of stroke is minimal and blood thinners can completely eliminate that risk.

What do you mean by "done a good job for me."? Thanks.

Thanks. I underwent the 2nd ablation yesterday. My EP advised that 2 small holes had formed in the initial abalation sites and used Pulse Field this time to give them a touch up. His view is you are not AF free until medication free but with acknowledges in some patients this is not always possible.

My cardiologist advised that it is not recommended to stay on Flecainide for a long period hence my decision for the second abalation.

Fingers and toes crossed it is successful. Good lieutenant your journey.
