Best Christmas present ever!

My AFIB became persistent in August last year and my doctor’s summary was not good. The doctor told me the longer it stayed with me the harder it would be to get back to Sinus Rhythm. When I posted on this site the advice was overwhelmingly in agreement to get a consultation with a specialist asap, even if I had to pay. I did this and said I preferred to remain conscious when the procedure was eventually performed. The waiting list was 7 months for conscious patients, 12 for anaesthetised patients. Amazingly he contacted me and said he had spaces on Christmas Eve, was I interested? Was I !!!

I had the pre op and was admitted on Christmas Eve. Procedure took around 2and a half hours ( as best as I can recall!) and included a elation and cardioversion, for which I was anaesthetised. The process was a complete success and the only hard bit was getting the wound to stop bleeding!

I was picked up on Saturday evening by my family and went home to enjoy the best Christmas I could have hoped for!🎄

We love a good news story here, I know you’re in your second week now but take it easy for a few more weeks.

Here is the recovering from ablation info sheet, read it over and over

That's great news Alfc. Isn't it strange how things turn out not not at all as we expect. So pleased to hear you are feeling well, what a lovely Christmas present.

Fantastic news. I too felt massively supported by everyone on the forum and had cardio. version on 26/11 and immediately felt back to normal. It’s like magic and I’m still feeling so happy and grateful. Well done. 👏 😀

Good news! What procedure is ‘an elation’? Is it always combined with a cardioversion?

Fantastic! Join the Christmas procedure club! (Mine was an emergency aortic dissection repair which unfortunately returned me to fib, but at least I was alive)
