Paroxysmal AF. ‘after shock’

I’ve PAF- seemingly controlled better by a daily dose of flecainide 200mg - with an additional PIP of 200mg for each episode. Had an episode yesterday at 4,00pm that the PIP stopped in about 40 minutes. However when I went to bed last night I had another episode , but before I could really think what to do ( take another tablet/ A&E? ) within 10 minutes it disappeared on its own .

Is that another episode or does anyone else get rumblings for a few hours after taking medication ?

Are you monitoring your afib with a Kardia, Apple Watch or other device ? Afib can be silent. Is your heart rate controlled during the episode ?

Would be good to discuss with your doctor for a possible change in dosage and/or medication.

Apple Watch . Mine isn’t silent . In AF my Heart will average 75 bpm … but it’s going from 40( my normal ) to 130 during that time.

Extra PIP 200mgs looks too much to me; 300mgs (daily & PIP) in 24hrs is the usual max quoted here. I would make an appointment with your trusted cardio medic.

The quoted maximum dose of Flecainide is h 300mg a day I took that dose for 10 years. I was told that I could take an extra 100mg if needed, but never for more than 5 consecutive days. In those 20 years I only took more than 300 on just 4 consecutive days once.

I've always wondered with medication whether height and weight is relevant. I'm 6'6" and now weigh about 16 stone although at the time I took Flecainide I was around three stone heavier. Could I tolerate more Flecainide because I was heavier than an average person?

Is my question really . Originally my daily dose was 2x50 but it didn’t have much impact . The cardiologist did say “ well you are a big muscular guy” before upping it to 2x100 . I suspect that logically that must mean the “ 300mg daily limit” is really a guideline for the average population?
