Sounds like a high dose of bisoprolol to begin with. I was started on 1.25mg and even that small dose made me sick with dizziness, breathlessness and felt like l was in outer space. I was only able to take it as a pip in the end. It can take some time to get the medication that suits you and with me it was trial and error. There are lots of alternative drugs so if you still feel ill in a couple of weeks, l would ask for a review. Are you taking an anticoagulant? That is important if you need too. I am on warfarin for life. It does feel as if you are abandoned at first , l felt the same and this forum has seen me through many dark times. I am sure it will you. You can find out everything you need to know on here so fire away at your worries. You will smile again and have a good quality of life. It will get better.
I would call the AF Association for advice, just as Buzby62 says. It's definitely worth speaking to them. K.
Glad you spoke to the AFA - they're very helpful I've found. As others have said - use the forum for support. It takes a while to get our medication right sometimes, so note your symptoms and any dose you've been taking. Can you take your blood pressure? If so, keep a note of that too.
Also, the British Heart Foundation offers a freephone to speak to a cardiac nurse (0808 802 1234 weekdays 9am to 5pm).
I was started on 2.5mg of Bisoprolol but like you, so dizzy! So now on 1.25mg of that but I split the dose a.m and p.m and 1.25mg of Amlodapine a m and less dizzy except first think on waking and then when I was taking my morning dose with the other 2 meds Apixaban and Amlodapine...so I've now started taking my Bisoprolol at 2pm and again at 9.30 p.m and am not dizzy. Yesterday though I was going out so had to take all 3 in the morning but only 30 mins apart and was dizzy again.
Are you feeling dizzy because of AF or just randomly? Did it happen before the bisoprolol?
It can be easy to feel we are just "left" but, I suppose the reality is that there's not a vast array of treatments and bisoprolol is the normal one to start with. I am not sure what A&E could do unless you are at some kind of risk from the AF, which a few sufferers are (for example, big drop in BP and fainting).
