Hi-I was just diagnosed with severe left atrium enlargement, after years of SVT and probably undetected Afib. Cardiologist is positive for my future, soon to see EP. I really need emotional support. Thanks.

Severe left atrium enlargement
Hi there
I was further diagnosed by ECHO the same but the overall heart had returned to normal.
But no anlationsm cardioversions, anti-arrhythmic meds.
I have transgressed on 2 meds - CCB Diltiazem morning the best for me which reduced heart rate to 60s with low dose of 120mg CD.
I also have 2.5mg Bisoprolol night for BP.
I've been on this regime for 3 years.
You take care. Yes, you had AF earlier.

Keep in mind the good news: the top of the heart can get up to all kinds of tricks and not affect the part that matters: downstairs apartment! That sounds flippant, but is not meant to be - and it is what I have been told. The valves are more important than the atria, I gather - are they okay?
Overall, though, despite the sound of it, I would think you will "go on fine"!

Hello, I also had " a very enlarged left atrium". This was due to severe mitral valve regurgitation. I ended up having valve repair surgery in 2021 and the atrium went back to normal size, and still is to this day. I wish you well.
After my AF diagnosis, I too was told was told my atria were enlarged. With proper medication and reduced episodes, my heart returned to normal size. Limiting the number of and length of the episodes is key. I opted for ablation after medication was not reducing my burden enough and now I have not had AF for 6 years.
