I don't know to be honest. I guess it depends on your Cardio Consultants assessment of what your heart is doing ... not doing. Over the last 14 years I have gradually progressed from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol and now to Sotalol ........ my present dose of Sotalol is 40mg in morning and 40 mg in the evening.

Of the three drugs Sotalol is the strongest and has knocked me around more than the other two put together ...... however ....... it is most certainly controlling my heart rate and blood pressure the best of all.

My Cardio Consultant has told me that if Sotalol doesn't work the next step in the progression will be Flecainide. I return to the Consultant in late September 2024 for a review.

I find your comment about your Cardio Consultant putting you on Flecainide if Sotalol doesn't work, interesting. I have done just the opposite. My cardiologist switched me from Flecainide to Sotalol, which is working just fine - controlling my AFIB with 80 mg twice a day.

Your comments made me return to my diary and look at the sequence of events. I was prescribed the sotalol at the end of April 2024 and started it 18 May 2024. On 23 May I had to travel upcountry for a scan which my Consultant wanted done to check that I was suitable for Flecainide. I was suitable as it happened ........ so now I know I am cleared to use Flec if needs be. So far so good with Sotalol.

80mg twice a day , started 80/40.....then increased to 80/80 on cardio advice.......it works pretty well....sometimes i get periods of low pulse rate 47 ish , on the up side the AF episodes have decreased....74 year old male, diagnosed AF 2020 . Think we all learn there are not many set rules for this condition.

It will be in the packaging leaflet, for sure, but is always the one your specialist prescribed for you.

I used to take 40 mg 3x daily , reduced to twice because of breathlessness.

When I was taking it, they had me on half of the lowest dose pill, twice a day. Even then, it was difficult getting off of it post-ablation.

I used to take 40mg three times a day, but found it too much. I now cut them in half and take 20mg three times a day.

I started on 40 mg twice a day, then they increased it to 80 mg twice a day.

hi I’ve been on bisoperol for 10 years cardiologists changed to solatol 40 twice a day but dropped my heart rate in the 40s now on 20mg twice a day as I’m medication sensitive. Not sure if such a small dose is enough . Was only on 1.25mg bisoperol for the same reason. Cardiologist changed my meds because of getting more frequent a fib attacks .
