Good afternoon Summerlily

Thank you for your post on the Atrial Fibrillation support forum, if you can take anti-inflammatories with flecainide, I have found a leaflet on our website that you might find useful about this medication, as we are not medically trained it might be best to get some advice from a Pharmacist or Doctor.

Please see the link below regarding the leaflet about Flecainide.

Speak to your GP or Pharmacist is the only advice really but I think you’ll find most anti inflammatory drugs are not recommended with anticoagulants and can also affect your AF.

I had to have steroids instead for inflammation in a foot joint, whereas previously I would have taken an NSAID like ibuprofen.

Rivaroxaban, Brand name: Xarelto

Best wishes

hi I have been on Xarelto from day one first is a precaution until I was diagnosed because of what had happened to me. I have never had issues in the beginning I used to bruise quite a bit and easily however that no longer happens. It was probably about six months that I experienced the negative of bruising. I do notice if I get a bruise, it will last longer, but that’s about it.

I was supposed to be getting back surgery two years ago when I moved here to Texas. My heart decided it was going to act up after a year and a half of good luck with my ablation. I am on tramadol, which is a synthetic opiate, however they suggest you take, an anti-inflammatory with it. I have been on it quite a while and I do need that extra boost to take care of the pain. I have taken Aleve with it for sometime now without any side effects whatsoever, including upset stomach. Tylenol should not be a problem either I have tried them all because otherwise I can barely get off my bed because of my back.

I had cardiac clearance, but my white blood cell count has been low so it was pulled again. Yesterday I had an echo done if that comes up clear they will allow me to see the neurosurgeon again. I was extremely sick and January. It was not Covid or the flu, but it felt like it, they believe that is why the blood cell count is still off although we still don’t know what I had. Yesterday was to check and see if I might have pericarditis again because I am very prone to that especially if I have some thing as simple as a cold .

my doctor is aware of what I take. Make sure that yours is also he is really the only one that can tell you what is right to take most usually Tylenol because that’s what they give you in the hospital although for me it’s been alongside some great cocktails, they mix up for pain

We are all different. Please don’t experiment on your own instead, depending on where the pain is try a heating pad where the red light laser treatment can buy those now for under $40 US and they do work. My heating pad has become one of my best friends it’s very soothing.

best of luck

Tylenol is generally ok. As to the others, Flecainide is a tricky drug so speak to both your doctor and pharmacist. I also like to look at some of the online drug interaction checkers just to make sure.

Definitely a question for your doctor, even if someone else uses anti-inflammatories. We're all different and it might be necessary and/or okay in their case but that doesn't mean it would be okay or safe for you.

According to drugs.com, NOT ibuprofen

"Ibuprofen interacts with Xarelto (rivaroxaban).

Using rivaroxaban together with ibuprofen may increase the risk of bleeding, including severe and sometimes fatal hemorrhage."

According to medicalnewstoday.com

"It may not be safe to take Xarelto with NSAIDs. These are a type of pain reliever. People typically take NSAIDS to treat inflammation and pain. Interaction result: Taking Xarelto in combination with an NSAID can increase the risk of bleeding."

Something that works surprisingly well is cherries, either dried or fresh. They also lower your blood pressure, and taste really good.

What are you trying to alleviate with an anti inflammatory? Is it an acute inflammation or chronic inflammation?

It is important to recognise re the latter that adequate Vitamin D3 is needed to reduce the inflammation implicated in AF events, and to lower the morbidity rate of many other medical conditions.

And I can find no interactions between Vitamin D3 and either flecainide or Xarelto.

Best person to ask is your pharmacist. they know more about medication interaction.
