Calf pain after beta blockers

It's been 3 months since I don't take beta blockers for blood pressure and high blood pressure and since then I have calf and leg pain during sleep. It's so annoying because I can't sleep. I took supliments like magnesium, calcium and potasium and all the leg creams and tea for blood circulation and nothing.

I also saw that my toenails and finger nails won't grow.

Does anybody experienced this? Please don't sent me to the doctor, if I had inssurance I won't be here.

It is unlikely that stopping the beta blocker would cause leg pain. If there is redness, swelling or tenderness it is more likely that the cause can be potentially serious, such as a DVT which is a blood clot that could travel to your lungs. There are certainly many other possibilities that would have to be diagnosed by a physician. If you are I the US the most cost effective method may be aan Urgent Care Facility. Calling the doc who prescribed the beta blockers is another option. If redness and swelling are present this should be evaluated promtly. Best etheral

I don't have redness or swelling. And I don't live in US. Thank you though.

hi Annie

I stopped taking beta blockers 6 months ago and also have noticed more pronounced pain in lower legs and feet, more often than not at night. It doesn’t really affect my sleeping unless it goes into full cramp though and can wake me during the night.

I always used to have strong long nails but now also struggle to grow them as they start to split and break. Haven’t noticed the toe nails changing though.

Is it connected to the beta blockers? I genuinely don’t know and would guess that a GP wouldn’t either unless it’s on the list!! I tend to try and breathe through any episodes. If you are concerned about lacking magnesium or calcium it might be worth getting a blood test to check mineral levels.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful but if you know for sure it is a mineral deficiency, you can address that specifically.

Did you have withdrawal symptoms?

Not really but I was only on a very low dose as drug sensitive. It has taken 6 months for my fingernails to become strong again and still get the odd leg/foot pain but I feel so much better without the side effects.

what dose and what beta blocker did you take? Was it for 6 months? and how long did it take for these symptoms to disappear?
