I can see that a blue highlight (iOS) provides a direct link, but I can’t see how to set that up. Thank you in advance.

How can I highlight another member’s username in a post?

Type. “@“ followed by the user name without a space between.
But you need to "select" the member's name from the drop-down list to make it an effective HU link, not just type the letters (@username) as suggested.
Agree with ozziebob and you need a space before the @ sign and after where you’re typing or it won’t offer the dropdown list. You’ll find this out if trying to insert in the middle of a reply.
"... trying to insert in the middle of a reply"? Well, I've never thought of writing a reply as a continuous stream of letters without spaces.🤔 That would "keep 'em on their toes!" 😄
If you decide to insert someone’s link in a reply before you send, click on a space to do it and it’s only one space, you need to be in the middle of two spaces for it to work so click to the left of a space and add another space first. Welcome to the overthinking department 😂
Are you ( Buzby62 ) serious in suggesting that, at age 77, I still don't know how to use words to compose a grammatically correct sentence? 🤔 Very strange.
Notice I inserted no space after the "(", or before the "@", and the link above still worked as intended!
Not at all (@ozziebob), I was merely trying to be helpful to the OP and others reading. Sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention, maybe I should have replied to the main post instead of your reply.
Best wishes.
