I Too Have Persistent Afib

I too am in persistent afib (Bradycardia) with no symptoms. I was taking Amiodarone medication which caused internal bleeding. The result was blood in my urine. My cardiologist switched me to Eliquis medication, 5mg at 10AM and 10PM and I no longer have blood in my urine and my Bradycardia is under control.

I don't think you mean amiodarone which is not an anticoagulant. I doubt that has been the culprit.

Further to BobD ’s reply there are info sheets on the following link

Eliquis is a brand name for the drug Apixaban (anticoagulant)

Amiodarone is a rhythm control drug.

Best wishes

Amiodarone, the most effective antiarrhythmic drug in atrial fibrillation, inhibits apixaban and rivaroxaban elimination, thus possibly increasing anticoagulant-related risk for bleeding.

So your doctor may be experimenting with different thinners to see which ones work best for you without causing excessive bleeding .

The above citation was from Dr. Google that many here are unwisely told to avoid.

But bradycardia is a slow heart rate!

An elderly friend has AF permanently with a slow to normal rate and few symptoms. I think some level of protein / blood in urine is common, too, as we get older but it seems the amiodarone / anticoagulant mixture caused yours.

How are you feeling yourself?

I’m on amiodarone and Apixaban and have had blood in my urine, but no one suggested it might have anything to do with the amiodarone - more likely the Apixaban. I had a cystoscopy which showed there was nothing amiss and the problem resolved anyway. I’ve had no change in medication.
