flecainide toxicity

what causes Flecainide toxicity? I only take 50mg but don’t understand how you can get it.

My understanding is that this drug is powerful yes but is relative to other heart drugs widely tried and tested. Possible toxicity arises for some if other comorbidities are present or other drugs resulting for example in the kidneys not flushing it out efficiently.

I have taken 200mgs daily for 11 years now and not aware of any toxicity.

Hi Aflife, I’ve been taking Flecanide 150mgs am and pm since 2020 and was taking Flecanide 100mgs am and pm since 2013 before that. I read somewhere that there’s a specific blood test to test for Flecanide toxicity so I asked my gp last year about it. She told me the blood test needs to be taken in the hospital and brought to the lab immediately. So I did that. The result was no toxicity. Good luck on your AFibb journey. Biddy

I take 200 mgs daily and just got back perfect blood test.

90% of the time, yes. Only in very stressful situations there can be a breakthrough, but then I take an extra 200 mg and those get me back in sinus within 2 to 4 hours. For the extra dose I use fast-working Flecainide, for the daily dose it is the ‘retard’ , slow-release version.
