If you mean suffering side effects from medication the answer is yes and l believe l speak for many. It can be trial and error to find the correct medication that suits you. We all react differently. Hope you soon get stabilised and feel better.
What medication have you had?
I think over the first year of my AF I tried every beta blocker, calcium channel blocker and rate and rhythm control med out and none of them suited me - they actually made me feel worse than the AF and I spent so much time with the cardiologist or on the phone to him that he must have quaked at the sound of my voice! It is always trial and error and a dosage change or medication change is always a wise move so that you and your Doc can find a medication and dosage that is right for you.
I am greateful other people have problems. Kept t phoning surgery did not work to I referred myself to the clinic ,feel better ,had problems with new drug.,but I can have a life!
Hi
No, not a Doc.
Docs simply follow the specialist recommendations and increase the dose.
BBs did not control my Day rapid heart rate.
One would control BP.
Private Specialist introduced CCB Slow Release Diltiazem 120mg. Bingo. A huge drop in H/Rate 156 to 88-96 then I lost 6kg and dropped to 60s.
And Night avge stayed at 47.

My Doc did change dosage and notified the consultant/specialist but couldn't change the medication.
Hi
That is the problem.
But a Dr can change a BB Beta Blocker for another Beta Blocker.
A Heart Specialist introduced me to CCB Calcium Channel Blocker.
I should have had this CCB Diltiazem in September when I had the stroke with AF Rapid and Persistent.
I had said NO to Metoprolol. But complaining later a letter came to say IT WAS HOSPITAL PRACTISE TO PUT ALL STROKE VICTIMS ON METOPROLOL.
Absolutely no apologises. But Bisoprolol is better for AFers and Strokewise said the Hospital Heart Specialist. But it did not drop my Day Heart Rate enough. From 186 down to 156 Day was not CONTROL of my heart Rate. Should be under 100.

My GP wouldn't change any medication prescribed by my cardiologist or EP whilst I was still under their care, he insisted that I contact them to change a medication but he would change the dosage and notify them. mybe when you are discharged from the care of the cardiologist/EP then maybe my GP would but I have not had to find that out yet as only been discharged from the care of my cardiologist/EP last October after 7 years. I imagine though if anything were to happen my GP would suggest a change but also refer me back to see the cardiologist/EP.
Bisoprolol absolutely drove me crazy! It was the first medication I was given and within 2 months was off it and on another 2 different medications - I think one was Verapamil along something else - I continued taking apixaban all this time which didn't give me any side effects at all - of course with all the problems I got with the rate/rhythm beta/calcium channel blockers if I had had any early on I probably wouldn't have noticed but now only on apixaban and have no side effects. I tried a few others and then eventually was told I had to go back on bisoprolol prior to having a cardioversion. The cardioversion was cancelled due to Norovirus in the hospital and that was the time I tried to stay on it, taking it at different times of the day to see if it lessened the effects I was getting on it - it didn't. One Saturday morning I could barely get out of bed was so tired, breathless and dizzy I couldn't walk down the stairs so my wife telephoned the hospital and my cardiologist was actually on duty and he told me to stop straight away. After that they did try me on digoxin but after 5 weeks on that had the same side effects and asked if GP would lower the dose which they did that was Ok for about a month but then I had my first cardioversion and came off them and never went back on them despite going back into AF after 11 months or so. It's good if you can find one at a dose that works for you.
I should think most (or many) of us have as we are all different and sadly, the medical profession assume we are all the same! One size certainly doesn’t fit all!
