Electric shock treatment upddate

Further to my post this morning, thank you all for your replies. I have spoken to the secretary to the consultant who is currently on leave. She tells me that it is DCCV that it is proposed possibly due to paroxysmal AF subsequent to the recent echo results. Have told her of my concerns and she will speak to consultant when he returns. I'm rather anxious about this but will have to wait and see what transpires. Thanks again for all your advice.

Glad you got clarification, but as you probably know, DCCV is only done if you are in atrial fibrillation at the time of the DCCV. It is not done simply because you have a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation, such as paroxysmal afib, where are you go in and out of it.

I mentioned this because in your original post you said you were not currently in atrial fibrillation. Again something you want clarification about.

Clarity from our doctors is paramount and we do not get enough of it.I had a very nasty experience last year with an internal examination that wa not explained well to me....and it was a male practitioner who did the procedure......not helpful.

Don't assume all doctors are the same. When a GP wanted to do an internal examination of ny back passage, she insisted in calling in a chaperone before explaining what she was doing. A week later I saw a hospital specialist, a week after that I had a CT scan, again the doctors explained what and why they were doing, as did the doctor who removed a polyp from my sigmoid colon.

The echocardiogram technician would have been able to see if you were in atrial fibrillation while doing the scan

What does your Kardia Mobile show at the moment?

If you're truly in normal sinus rhythm, then they will not do a DCCV. Send the Kardia tracing to the EP, so they can update your chart.

Why are you anxious? What is your concern? Mind you a DCCV is only applicable if you are in AF at the time.

I had numerous DCCVs over a period of 10 years.

Each time I am relieved to tell you I felt much better afterwards for some months. My AF has ultimately been stabilised by a number of ablations.

Fear not, if you have a DCCV you will most likely even feel euphoric afterwards as I and others have found.

Don’t worry also as they will give you a short anaesthetic and you will know nothing about the procedure.
