How very disappointing for you both. Looking on the bright side, at least it shows that he can be returned to sinus rhythm which bodes well for the success rate of an ablation.

Of course its disappointing, but it’s also points the way to a treatment plan which benefits many so remain focused, lots to be positive about!

Disappointed for you but as the others say, the positive is that NSR can be achieved so hopefully the medics will come up with a plan for him soon.

Just remember not to focus too much on the heart rate from the watch while he’s in AF. I would just use the ECG app sparingly when he feels something is different as this will work out an average for you over the 30 seconds. It’s the average that matters in AF not the individual beat to beat measurements.

Hey Jackie. It happens. PAF can kick in at any time - so can sinus. It will get there. Trust me.

All best Paul

This is your other half? However disappointed he might be feeling you can support him by staying calm and helping him find a new normal. Seriously, this will help both him and you. AF can be managed although we all have our bad days. But not every day has to be that bad day. Try to enjoy the things you can enjoy together, and not let the disappointment take over.

Thank you , yes your right . I’m a bit of worrier . If his heart function was ok and he didn’t have a stroke i think I would probably be less stressy . But I take on board what you’ve said and your right , I just worry his fast rate isn’t helping his function

I understand. You need to look after yourself too though. Does he function mostly OK post stroke, or are you doing the job of a carer. So hard not to worry!

I have to work full time now he has had to give up work . Luckily my son is still at home and daughter so there is someone in the day . He can’t go out independently at the moment as he doesn’t feel confident enough with his communication and is still adjusting to losing 50% eyesight in both right sides of his eyes and losing his driving licence . . Hopefully in time he will get more confident to go out independently.

That is tough. I'm so sorry - loss of function and confidence. His life has changed and maybe it's no wonder his heart is unstable. Did AF cause the stroke initially? Or did he develop is afterwards?

If you read my previous posts you will see his AF caused the stroke and leading up to it as its a lot to write in one go lol . Take care

Sorry not to have been up to speed. I totally understand your concerns.

I feel for you. This happened to my brother. His afib was discovered after the stroke and he too lost 50% of his vision in both eyes and subsequently his driving licence. My brother's mental health declined rapidly and he has terrible health anxiety now, it's just not my brother anymore.

Sorry, I am not aware of your story, did your husband have a stroke before he was diagnosed with afib?

Jackiesmith7777 profile image
Jackiesmith7777 in reply to Karendeena

No after . Hope your brother can improve in time . When did he have his stroke and what age? If you read my posts you’ll see he had an ablation in 2017 so you would think alarm bells would have rang when I took him to A and E two days before and GP one day before . He wasn’t given blood thinners just amprimil so I’m a bit cross about that too .

That's poor treatment, the first thing should have been the anticoagulants. My brother was 68 when the strokes hit in January this year. He turned 69 in the February. He didn't even know until he was driving and hit a stationary car.

He has given up. Previously he used to swim being a member of a health spa, had a friend in Germany, travelled etc and since losing his licence his world as he knew it has come to an end. He now stays with my 95 year old mum and sits about all day. He has become weaker and fearful. Calls ambulances thinking he's having another stroke and keeps a bag with medication and spare clothes with him at all times. It's awful to see 😥

is he on a high dose of bisoprolol because Paul was getting like that . He was on 15mg and was like a zombie with high anxiety . Since he s cut down to 5mg a day he seems more like himself . He still won’t go out by himself but hopefully in time he will get more confident as he says he s learning to adapt to his vision more .

I know it's disappointing, but things could turn around and he could go back into NSR. This setback could show a path to the next step. Everyone is different, and you'll find a plan that works.

Mine lasted 9 days .Now 9 months in NSR for 9 months post ablation.

So sorry to hear that Jackie. How long did you stay in rhythm? 😔

Jackiesmith7777 profile image
Jackiesmith7777 in reply to Slidingdoors99

My husband not me . Five days . On his Apple Watch he seems to dip in to sinus rhythm occasionally .

Hi, how are you seeing the Sinus Rhythm? Is it on the ECG app using a finger on the crown wheel ?

Jackiesmith7777 in reply to Buzby62

Yes

That should be a reliable reading then. I hope that is a positive for him that further treatment or procedure could be successful. Best wishes

I’m pretty sure the same thing is happening to me. I think any time going back into NSR shows some hope? I hope so, for both of us. 🙏
