I went for Pace & Ablate in 2018. The pacemaker worked so well I cancelled the Ablation of the AV node.

I have a re-synchronisation Medtronic pacemaker, 3 leads, had a problem with the LV lead detaching so had to go in again for revision. It has totally changed my QOL for the better.

Quite a few members have had these procedures and in the main, found it very beneficial but be warned, it may not stop your AF but after the AV node ablation because your pacemaker will control your pulse you should see a big reduction in symptoms although you may still feel palpitations from the AF.

5 years on, from having very symptomatic, long and fast AF 3-4 weekly, I now have very mild, occasional episodes which tend only to happen when I have an infection - maybe 2-3 times a year.

Pacemaker Procedure itself is usually in a day clinic under local anaesthesia and IV pain meds - you can ask for sedation but I cannot tolerate sedation. It’s uncomfortable but not a major surgery.

My husband is going in tomorrow to a day clinic for a replacement box as his battery is low after 10 years. Modern PM batteries now last 12-15 years.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Hope that helps - Best Wishes and good luck for your procedure.

Hi I had 2 Ablations and then I got the Pacemaker, that stopped me passing out, but the AF persisted. Had my third Ablation and now waiting for my 4th Ablation. The Pacemaker is a great device but it does not stop the AF, but did allow me to start taking Bisoprolol to relax the heart and reduce the impact of the AF.

Cheers

I've had the pace and ablate. Sept 2022 for the pacemaker and December 2022 the av node ablation. It's been a game changer for me and I'm no longer aware of the AF at all.

Good luck to you.

Hello and good afternoon, I had a pacemaker fitted with AV node ablation in 2021, had an issue when the lead from the pacemaker went into a vein my left arm began to swell. Sorted out and since then all very positive. Back to golf 3 x per week, at 78 not too bad I guess

Best of luck

Good luck with everything. I will be interested to read anything and everything you have to say about the whole thing as this is on the cards for me as well. X

I have aflutter and now Afib. Had an ablation for the flutter in 2017, but gradually it all came back. To be fair it did stop the dreadful thumping when the bed or settee or wherever I was sitting felt as it was moving and not me. Then I was given flecainide 50mgs x 2 and it helped tremendously.

Then I did start to have low blood pressure and very slow heart rate so was taken into hospital for another ablation, but in the end it was decided to give me a pacemaker. All I can say, and I must need to touch wood as only had this done in September, but brilliant. Now it seems they will not need to do the ablation 🤞

I have to say it was absolutely pain free and not uncomfortable. No after effects other than good being unaware of my heart. I do have a very bad back so was given an infusion of liquid paracetamol in order to lie flat, and then I believe I thought they said sedative, but I was awake talking and laughing with the consultant the whole time so not aware of any sedation taking place. Such an easy procedure. Truthfully if I had to have it again I would not be worried at all.

I don’t think you will regret the pacemaker if you have it done. Obviously this is only my opinion.

Good luck
