Hi all. Journey started approx April 2020, when diagnosed with throat cancer, through treatment, discovered i also had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which was prescribed daily Bisoprolol. Cancer free, but had 1st AF in July 2022, when walking up a hill after watching a football match. Received a Cardioverse and medication doubled. On Sat 4th Nov, same happened, again walking home from football match. Cardioverse given which has put heart back into normal rhythm, although feel bit more anxious after 2nd occasion. Diabetic type 2 also.

Strange that both occasions after watching match, not that i get very exited?

What is common reasons?

Must have been an exciting match, but with Dundee still maintaining top league position it seems unlikely the football triggered the AF!

I get the feeling from so many posts I read here that a combination of stressors can set things off. When conditions are right the darn thing manifests. So for all kinds of reasons keep the anxiety in check.

You’re lucky the cardioversions worked for you. Mine didn’t last longer than a week, but I know for some it’s a way of staying Afib free for years.

Wishing you health

Haha....Didnt think it was the football either, but folk having heart issues etc at football games not uncommon. Think stress/anxiety could be linked, plus had a few drinks the night before, not a regular drinker TBH.

I live in a smallish fishing town which is built on high hills with the town in the valley. Walking up one of the very steep hills to get home can make me feel quite ill, but I can walk up to my home any other route including some that contain really long flights of steps with no problem.

So my guess is it's the walk up the hill for you to get home that's causing your AF. Could you take a different route home, get a taxi or bus?

Thanks for your comments. Yes there is a steep hill back from stadium to the house, approx 200m in distance..normaly stop about 3 or 4 times to just slow down etc, but it is the only common denominator....will hopefully speak with Arythmia nurses soon

I have no personal experience, but I've read many mentions on the Forum about how the treatment for various cancers can cause arrhythmias.

Here's one article I just found ...

Thank you for that....TBH i now think my 1st AF was probably what led to my Heart issue being diagnosed in the first place, right in middle of Chemo and Radiotherapy treatment.....I will see if i can discuss that with the nurses, when i have my appointment....many thanks 😊
