2nd Af episode

Hi all disappointed this morning. Had my 2nd Af attack at 4 o’clock this morning while in bed. Hr was 99. Apple Watch confirmed Af and I know the feeling. Took 100mg flecanide and 2.5mg bisoprolol. Sorted back to nsr in a couple hours.

Thought I’d cracked it after the ablation last sept. And one episode in early December.

Too early to think about a 2nd procedure? My ep during our appointment few weeks ago did say he was willing to offer a touch up ablation.

To be honest it would be unusual if he didn't. A second or third ablation is sometimes required. At least the event was very low level which is good news.

Sorry to hear that Len and hope it's just a blip.

Thanks. Is there such thing as a blip though ? Once the rogue signals have found a pathway is that it

Wish I had a positive answer for you, as Bob said at least your heart rate wasn't super high. Are you having less attacks and feeling better overall for having had your ablation?

No difference really only my resting heart rate is 8 to 10 bpm higher than before ablation Attacks have dropped from once a month to once every few months i suppose

jeanjeannie50 profile image
jeanjeannie50 in reply toLenlec

Has your heart rate never gone over 100 when in AF? Also how did you feel when in AF before the op?

Lenlec profile image
Lenlec in reply tojeanjeannie50

My rate goes from around 48 to 102 when I have the Af episode I was always able to do things like work or go for a bike ride when in Af before just felt a bit tired and my chest felt weird as we all know about

Fingers crossed that you'll be ok from now on. My AF attacks quite disabled me and I couldn't walk far, even in my own home. I'd get stuck between 120-130 for days/month until I had a cardioversion, but I guess you've seen my story many times.

Good luck.

Thank you. I hope so. Sorry to hear your Af story. We are all different I suppose. How are you at the moment?

Good to hear.

Hiya,

Just curious .... what did you eat for your evening meal the previous evening ............ and how big was the meal and how late did you eat it ?

On the rare occasions I trip into AF it occurs between 1.30 and 4.00 am - almost always as a result of my evening meal the previous evening. Some meals being worse than others.

Hi. Had a ham salad sarnie and wedges. I did eat 4 or choc biscuits with a cuppa about 8,30.

Yep, would have been the starch in the wedges or the biscuits at 8.30. I can't eat after about 5pm and never any starch like potatoes or rice. I asked my cardiologist why my heart only goes off after a big meal at night and he said Hiatus Hernia

Do you take Flecainide with water on empty stomach as patient leaflet state - milk can hinder absorption, I also find too much salt is a trigger so try to keep to low salt and low sugar, try decaf tea/coffee, chocolate can contain caffiene. As someone else mentioned infection and virus have always set my AF going - I’m wondering if that’s why it started again 4 days after Cv as he’d chest infection and asthma (the reliever inhaler sets pulse off in itself)

I am so sorry to hear what has happened to you. Although I do not want to give you false hopes or talk any thing up for my self I had a an Ablation in December 2020. Although brilliant initially I have had episodes then put back in Flecainide and gradually weaned off, I have been now settled since last June. For me an infection like a UTI or stomach bug can also be a trigger as happened to me and not drinking enough water, the AF's I have had all coincided with eating chocolate which I have since cut out. I hope things settle for you.

I did have some choc biscuits about an hour before bed

That's so interesting that you went back on the Flecainide due to return of episodes but then presumably stabilised enough to come off again. Useful to know. I had ablation #2 nine weeks ago.

I had an ablation in March 2021, I came off meds after 6 months, 3 weeks after coming off meds I had af attack, I caught it on Kardia mobile and sent it to cardio nurse who confirmed it. A couple of weeks later the EP who performed my first ablation offered me a second and said it would be RF ablation. Sounds like once AF as broke through it needs a 2 nd ablation to touch up from the previous. Have a chat with the cardio nurse.

You hoping for this year then ? How often you getting Af episodes now ?

Yes anytime soon I think. I have not had an AF episode since the one I mentioned to the cardio nurse in Jan.

I’ve had 2 ablation & 1 cardioversion recently - the CV lasted 4 days then got chest infection and asthma (now back in AF with pulse 116-136 ish. Waiting to hear result of 48 hr ECG to see what’s next. It’s making me quite dizzy on & off with headaches/migraines making me a bit sick.Hope it settles for you
