As if waiting for the ablation wasn’t enough! I hope you soon have the answer you’re looking for and I hope your diverticulitis calms down soon.

I don’t have ann answer but my understanding is that diverticulitis is when the diverticula (which most of us have a few as we get older) become inflamed or infected - or presumably both of these. My hunch (based on my extremely flimsy medical knowledge) is that if you have an actual infection present that is causing a heightened temperature they will not risk any procedure on the heart. If your diverticula are a bit inflamed due to (for instance) eating highly processed food then they’d have to cancel rather a lot of ablations. Sorry I’ve no experience to share, just a hunch.

Diverticulitis is not necessarily caused by eating highly processed food. It can be genetic without diet, smoking or obesity involved. I wish I had know that earlier as my GP missed it.

I know, and same with all conditions that get associated with diet, obesity, lack of exercise etc. It seems to me there’s an awful lot of us who don’t fit the mould of statistics! Sorry if I implied otherwise, not my intention. And hope things are moving forward for you with your health.

Thanks for replying. I only mentioned as it is not obvious from most of the literature (although it is improving). I’m just going through my first diagnosis, so it is worrying, but I am trying to keep it in perspective. Take care. :0)

HiWell, all I can say as a longterm Gut Issue person ,is yes.

I had gallbladder gravel, then stones, then surgery.

I'm absolutely certain I missed the signs of AF, due to this. I was madly stressed at the time, and hoped the gallbladder removal would be the panacea.

Though AF was entirely separate!

Now I know that AF is often, and in my case, definitely affected by digestive issues,I can try to help matters.

Bad luck. It's no fun, is it. I have diverticular discomfort much of the time and rarely have a flare up but, fingers crossed, never an infection (to my knowledge, or at least, antibiotics that have been prescribed have never helped). I can't imagine the ablation being in any way affected by the diverticualr disease, but it would be best to mention it.

I’ve bad diverticulitis and get constipated and pain….but it doesn’t interfere with afib. I’m due secind ablation in January and never really thought about it, they are totally diferent things as far as I’m concerned. I would think though it’s good to make sure you ate goung to the loo with ease around the time of the proceedure as you dint want to strain to poo if you have just had the ablation and groin mending….in fact I’d now thought of that myself so will make sure I’m in macrogol the week befire and make sure things are moving ok.

Good luck with ablation,

Sue

Have they never suggested a colectomy? My gastro nagged me to have one and in the end I said yes. They took 26cm from my colon. It put a stop to the diverticulitis but changed my transit quite a lot!

Hi auriculaire,

I’m due another colonoscopy, last time he said he had difficulty doing it as it was so bad…..so maybe what you say is a good option. I’m fed up with this as my holiday in Spain was ruined by this roller coaster. I am due one this year, but he’s not contacted me yet…I’d have pushed it but for the ablation coming up and I’ve an ear problem too…it’s unnerving how we gather health problems as we age!

how are you these days?

Sue

Hi Sue -after I gave in to my gastro's nagging she said I needed a pre op colonoscopy to check for cancer and give the surgeon more info. But when I came round from the anaesthetic she said she had not been able to do it as I had so much scar tissue and that was confirmation I needed the op. All that horrid prep for nothing. I do not regret having the op at all though the recovery is not that easy. If you would like to know more about how it can affect you pm me - it's a bit tmi for this thread! But all in all it was worth it. If I were you I would phone about the colonoscopy . I was supposed to have one in August for my 5 year post op suivi. They did not contact me and I finally got round to making the rv with my gastro yesterday . No rv before mid May!!! Dentist appointment 6 weeks!!Things are going to the dogs.Spent 5 hours in Urgences at our local hospital yesterday. I went into afib at 5am Sunday morning and later that day had vertigo and unsteadiness . It got worse yesterday and I was worried about TIA / stroke. Doctor did not think it was either on examination and cat scan showed up nothing at all. I' m not convinced as my last TIA did not show on catscan but I did have more symptoms then and not ones that can be caused by vestibular neuritis. So discharged with a scrip for anti vertigo tablets. I am a bit better today and can walk almost normally and the room spinning has stopped though my head does not feel quite right and sudden head movements make me feel a bit dizzy. Still 5 hours from arrival to leaving isn't bad at all . Left with ECG , blood test results and scanner report.

Get ready for more riots. The police have just shot a niqab wearing woman on the Metro in Paris.
