Electronic cholesterol devices

Since high cholesterol can play a role in AF I want to make sure mine is normal. I have a yearly blood test at the doctors; last time it was 3.9 (normal) but I suspect it might have risen. I wondered if anyone could recommend an electronic device (rather than the “blotting paper” ones) which can be used for measuring , There don’t seem to be that many of them about and they vary greatly in price..

Sorry, no idea re the electronic tests, but have you thought about paying for a test at a chemist? Most seem to be around £18.

Hi Samazeuilh2, I hadn't come across a link between AF and high cholesterol, unlike the general view on cardiovascular disease (AF being an electrical problem rather than cardiovascular).

Just looking it up, research has been finding that AF is actually less likely with a higher cholesterol (total, LDL and HDL) and concludes "This research adds to the body of evidence which suggests an inverse relationship between cholesterol levels and AF -the “cholesterol paradox” for AF." academic.oup.com/eurheartj/...

That’s very interesting-thanks. I’ll probably still have to keep the cholesterol low as I had a bypass last year. I’ll ask Barts for more info in early October when I have an AF appointment.
