advice please!

I had my first ablation in November 2022. Since then I had 2 A fib episodes of around 40 mins spaces 3 months apart but in the last two days have two more episodes lasting 2 hours and 40 mins. I took flex aide in two occasions but my ep said they wouldn’t have had time to work so went back into rhythm non my own. I am obviously concerned that they are now becoming more frequent (before the op they were every 4 months or so ) but the time spent in Afib is a lot shorter, I used to be up to 24 hours. I assume I am going to need another ablation but does anyone know whether it’s better to use the same EP or is it worth seeking a second opinion and trying a different approach? Sorry I know a lot to ask and difficult to answer but would appreciate any advoce. Thanks

This happened to me six months after my ablation and the episodes for closer together although they were a lot less symptomatic. I ended up with flecainide 50mg twice a day and have not - touch wood!- had an episode since last September. I'm hoping this will continue. I'm still under the same EP. I Was happy with the first ablation with that the EP and he will have my records etc.

Thanks for the reply, would you not consider another ablation? Not sure I want to be permanently on meds if possible?

It took me six months to feel better and twelve to feel normal after my last ablation so I ducked the offer of a second right away. I recently spoke to a cardio nurse who suggested that as I am reasonably happy on the meds at the moment and leading a fairly normal life I should leave another ablation until it is needed. If it begins to break through again I will probably go for another ablation. This is in the light of what's happening with the NHS at the moment and the prospect of more Covid etc. on the way. I really needed the first ablation which has helped no end apart from the breakthrough. It's up to you if you want another ablation now so best of luck with what you decide.

I would want the same EP consultant as I both like and trust him .

I am 5 months out from first ablation after 12 years on Flec - massive improvement but still taking 1/2 dose Multaq - have had 3 episodes since then but would be reluctant to go for another ablation unless got much more frequent- drugs not risk free but neither are ablations it’s all about quality of life and I feel amazing now compared to previously and I am 73.
