I negotiated reducing a blood pressure tablet with my pharmacist. Do it for 2 days only she said and then report back. In fact she rang me and all was well. The lower med. dose worked for me.So I would take advice from your pharmacist or GP first. before changing the dose. I was taking Amlodipine .

Hiya Blossoms ..... ABSOLUTELY 100% AGREE !

I'm on a beta blocker too - Bisoprolol. Bb's are for heart rate control BUT they have properties which some medics prescribe them for BP control. THEY ARE NOT for BP control. There are more specific BP control drugs such as Ramipril and Felodopine which should be used for BP control.

As you correctly say ... Prettywoman15 should discuss with her GP.

Hi

Um.

What you say is wrong according to my health and AF.

BBs block Adrenaline and those with anxiety benefit to control hypertension (high BP).

It controls my BP on the low dose of 2.5mg PM. I have been up to 10mg and had no help bringing done H/R lower than 156.

BP now is 120-123 / 69 Day.

But my priv H/Specialist introduced CCB Diltiazem 180mg. Within 2 hours I was @ 51 H/R.

With twinking the dosage and lowering Bisoprolol to 2.5mg.

I take 120mg Diltiazem CCB AM. Now H/R 62-69 Day. Always 47avge at Night.

Its horses for courses I'm afraid. I am stating my experiences over 13 years and what I have been told by my Cardio Consultant. And to be fair ....its beeen totally effective - BP meds for BP. Beta Blockers for H Rate.

BP holding at 130/78 ish and H Rate around 63-67bpm. GP and my employers Dr. very happy, age considered. And no AF for about 18 months 🍷🍷🍷

Hi

In November last year my H/R fell from 80 - 96 to 62-69. Day.

Dr was away so I left out Diltiazem. ECG even 2 weeks later saw my

H/R over 100. BP controlled only.

When I left Bisoprolol at home while on holiday and H/R remained low at 47 at night. Dr said lets try to leave out Bisoprolol entirely but BP rose smartly and ECG in trouble.

So leaving out one or the other was wrong for me. I even tried 1.25mg Bisoprolol 1/2 a 2.5 but that didn't work.

Recalling my H/R Day was 156 on Bisoprolol 10mg only med for BP, H/R and Rhythm it was Diltiszem 180mg (too much) that brought me down 105 H.R within 2 hours.

Within two days Diltiazem was brought down to 120mg dosage AM and Bisoprolol down to 2.5mg PM with help from a nurse who knew my new private Heart Specialist.. Instructions were to separate the CCB from the BB.

I found healthwise that 60s H/R Day is 100% better. And keeping H/R 120s over 69 better as well.

I am also on thyroxine due to thyroidectomy with 12 right lymph nodes removed in Feb 2020 and 4 months after stroke. Stroke was caused AF caused by undiagnosed Papillary cancer. Under surgeons order my TSH is 1.0 - 2.0. T3 3.9-4.0. T4 total 19-24. ( I refused RAI Radio Active Iodine and Suppression. I had low risk of cancer returning.).

3 x yearly neck scans show no cancer left or showing.

As Drs say "It is how you feel". I am CONTROLLED. No longer having to worry whether an operation can go forward or not due to h/R over 100.

Another operation on a cancellation list for right shoulder rotor cuff repair.

Is there a reason why you aren't asking your GP this question? Metoprolol is a prescription drug, so only a doctor can legally prescribe it and decide or change the dosage.

Absolutely NO . Not without your doctor's permission. If it's temporarily raised just lie down and relax ; otherwise ring G P Or 111

Hi

Another pill of Metoprolol?

What is your blood pressure now and what strength are you taking of M...... already?

Metoprolol can have side effects.

Doubly my Metoprolol in 2008 I could not breath and almost got me admitted to hospital.

It was the Dr who told me to double it.

In 2019 after a stroke and 10 years after I stopped taking M.. I was put back on it whilst I said no.

On just 1 x 24.75 M. the 24-hour monitor showed an average of 187 beats per minute, 2 pauses x 2 second during night. It was not controlling my BP or H/R.

My priv H/Specialist introduced a CCB and with a combination of low dose of BB I am CONTROLLED in BP and H/R.

CCB Diltiazem 120mg AM and BB Bisoprolol 2.5mg PM.

My controlled levels are now with 1 year on CCB

120-123/ 69 Day. 62-69 H/R Day. 47 avge H/R Night.

Be sensible and be guided by your H/Specialist. Your Dr may increase your M... without looking at other drugs.

Absolutely advise against this for all the reasons given below. BBs never helped my blood pressure either. Bespoke BP meds work better. Has your BP suddenly gone up? This happens to me - I get spikes. Usually it's stress but it also happens in response to allergy triggers, viruses or stomach upsets. If you're feeling well, I'd recommend going for a brisk walk. That often helps.

12.5 mg of a diuretic, hydrochlothiazide, lowered my blood pressure wonderfully. I've taken it on and off over 20 years.

My doctor had me take two but then my HR was down too low and so I had to only take one a day, 25mg and cut in half , in the morning take a half and at night take the other half my doctor told me to do! This works out great! I take metroprole also!
