Hi everyone, I’m now 10 months post my second ablation and have my zoom call scheduled for mid August to discuss going forward with the arrhythmia nurse .
Since the ablation my QOL has been much improved but not totally AF free . 2 weeks after the procedure I had an episode lasting just over an hour, within the 3 month blanking period I had another lasting a few hours . From that time onwards I’ve only had some ectopic runs , some AF lasting literally a few seconds and the feeling I may go into AF but nothing happens . Yesterday on a day out with family we were strolling in a country park when I felt that funny sensation in my throat and feeling my pulse , it was chaotic but apart from a bit of weakness and light headedness I felt ok . I carried on walking and then when driving home after an hour I reverted back to NS R .
and no issue since .
After my first ablation the annual review suggested a second ablation which I waited about 18 months for . With the current situation in the NHS I expect they will look to discharge me from my EP’s patient list which concerns me as I don’t want to start from scratch if in the next few months my AF becomes worse . it was a battle to be seen in the beginning . I have read many on here talking about multiple procedures so is it common for the EP to keep you on their list in cases of relapse.

I remember your ablation being around the same time as my surgery 💕
In my case I was discharged from surgeon after 6 months and I expect to be discharged from EP when I see him in Aug, he said he discharges after12 months. I have both emails so if anything happens or I need seen again in the future I expect it to be an easier process than my first EP referral. Is it worth asking if you can email in the future should you need to? X
Hi and thanks , I hope your journey is going well . Yes I will try to get as much from the review as possible and ask all the questions I feel are appropriate. I have a Kardia mobile account which gives me the facility to send an ECG to my EP which they have asked for prior to my appointment anyway .
From memory on my annual review after the first ablation they offered to keep me on the list for a follow up procedure if required so I’m sort of hoping they do the same just in case of a decline but I’m not holding my breath in the current climate .
Ablation is not pass/fail. If your afib burden is significantly reduced, as yours seems to be, I'd say that your ablation is a success I just had my first and if I could only have 2-3 episodes a year that I could convert with PIP Flecainide, I'd be happy and not looking to subject myself to a second ablation.
I agree Jim and do feel my QOL is much improved since my last ablation. My thoughts were really about how things may progress after the review and where I go if I’m discharged . I would certainly undergo another ablation if necessary but only if I deteriorate and as I don’t seem to have any triggers I just have to try and live my life to the full and not worry about things until they happen
I had my second ablation last June. I have had two short bursts of AF in the first six months, the EP called me for a review on the 6 month after ablation and I told him I was much improved despite the two bursts.
It seems he was going to discharge me but because I had those two he said he would review again in 6 months but it would be unlikely I would be offered a third ablation.
Six months on from there I have had no AF, but like you felt AF was going to start but then nothing. QOL improved and I think it will probably be classed as a success and I will be discharged from the EP.
If any problems down the line I will get in touch with my GP who will then refer me back to the EP.
I am off all meds except 1.25 of the lowest dose of bisoprolol. So overall I’m quite pleased up to now. Hope our recovery continues 🤞. PS congrats on winning the cup 👍
Congratulations for improving your QOL which I think for most of us is a success . Also many thanks for your comment on the hammers, if anything was going to trigger an episode it was watching that game lol but I survived 😉
I am curious about your reduction in medication, was that recommended by your GP/EP as I thought anticoagulants were necessary going forward even if AF is largely reduced .
My chad score is nil. The flecanaide I was told by the EP to come off just before the 2 nd ablation and I was told to come off the bisoprolol too, however I was hesitant to come completely off the bisoprolol due to the small 2-3 second blips I was getting but I cut down from 2.5 to 1.25. By the next review I am hoping all been well to come off completely off them. I will have achieved my objective when I had the ablations to be able to come off all meds. All the best mate 👍
Hi, my 2nd ablation was March 22 and I've been in NSR since May 2022. Had some tachycardia due to thyroid treatment but otherwise no AF I could detect. Just occasionally when I was getting tachycardia I thought I might have had a few seconds of it, but then nothing to see. So, I'm happy. I just need to monitor my stress levels. Still working as we run our own business and that's the main challenge- to make decisions that allow me to chill more and work less. And, yes, I'm still on my EP list and cam contact the Arrythmia Nurse for advice. Stay well!
Maybe reduce outside activities, even walking, in the heat. It affected me with that pre AF feeling even though I enjoy the temperature, so I walk early and late, reluctantly paused basketball and smallholding activities.
