Thank you to all of you who posted in response to mine. The original topic has widened into many other relevant areas and I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with the number of messages. I’d particularly like to thank those who responded with calming words to my anxiety, suggestions for further exploration, and personal stories of encounters with GPs and of loved ones who have lived long and happy lives with AF (often with cholesterol above the recommended guidelines). It's a comfort to know you're all out there and sometimes struggling to manage (or have managed and come out the other side) similar things to me. Thank you.

My elderly friend, Philip, will be the grand age of 90 in August and he has had permanent AF for very many years and has always been well, taking only warfarin. It's my belief that it is rate and coagulation control rather than rhythm control that is the key to longevity with this condition.
