Hello! I’m new to this community but not new to AF. It’s been with me now for several years and still is, despite two ablations, a pacemaker and drug regime. I’m facing up to the challenge of embracing it rather than getting rid of it! Recent episode lasted 5 days and just before a family holiday to Croatia. Wondering whether to go. Does anyone have experience of needing to seek help in Croatia?

Hello Purpleoak and welcome. I can only help you with what I know about having travelled elsewhere because I haven’t been to Croatia. I think those EU cards are still in force. If you go on government website it should tell you and hopefully tell you if you’re insured for all conditions. If not maybe you should take out insurance cover. The BHF as help regarding that. Other to that I don’t know much more.

Hi Purpleoak

Just to make you aware that there is a forum on Health Unlocked just for people with AF. find it here:

healthunlocked.com/afassoci...

I went to Croatia a few years ago and didn't even think about my AF, but I also did a day visit to Montenegro. When I came back to the hotel, which was quite late, my daughter was quite concerned and told me she'd been searching online to see where we were. She then said she'd found out that in Montenegro there is no emergency ambulance service, so people with heart problems were advised not to go there. I had been totally unaware of that. So if anywhere near Montenegro don't do any trips there.

Healthcare is not free in Croatia for U.K. citizens, so make sure you are insured.
