Gallbladder surgery with (permanent) AFIB and pumonary hypertension
Had my gallbladder removed in 2005 (on holiday in Braga, Portugal!) with laparoscopy, no subsequent problems. May have had PAF but only diagnosed in 2008.
I've had AF for more years than I care to remember, but was first diagnosed with it 18 years ago. I've been in it permanently for the last three years.
Last year I had surgical removal of my gallbladder with no problems at all. I was given an ECG before the procedure and asked for a copy of it which they gave me. On there it looked as though all sorts of things were going on with my AF, but they weren't bothered. It was all carried out through three small incisions in my stomach area. My sister suffered with pain after having hers removed a few months earlier than me, but I had absolutely none and felt really well from the next day onwards.
I was slightly horrified to arrive at the hospital and have the consultant say to me that they were a training hospital and he had two surgeons there that day who had never performed the check to see that no stones are left in tubes remaining after the gallbladder is removed. After he'd showed them what to do would I mind them checking my tubes. I said yes, then no, then yes again. I hate the thought of people practising on me, but I couldn't be selfish as everyone has to start somewhere and he assured me they were both qualified surgeons.
From my experience I would certainly recommend the removal of them to anyone suffering the pain from gallstones.

Hi Jean, I'm currently in hospital about to have mine removed. I just had a stone removed from the bike duct and now gallbladder. Terrified. I suffer from ectopics now, by removing the gallbladder can it make the ectopics worse?
No problems with the op and Afib, I had laparoscopic op and stayed in overnight because I also have a pacemaker, I wouldn’t have felt like going home even if I had the choice, it was very painful !
Post op digestive problems were a nightmare for weeks. If you end up with bile acid malabsorption ask to try Colestyramine.
I had my gallbladder removed. It's regards these days as day surgery! They kept me in overnight as I live alone. To be honest that was helpful as the anesthetist told me it meant he could put plenty of pain killers in to numb the area for longer. Take your own paracetamol.... None on the ward!!I have not had any problems since its removal. I probably had P-Afib at the time but it hadn't been picked up.
