My husband had another cardioversion procedure last Friday and although it was successful he has had all-over itching which started the next day. This didn't happen the first time around.
He has a slight pad burn on his back which is a bit sore but the itching is all over - torso, arms, legs, feet, head and even his eyebrows.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any recommendations for relief gratefully accepted. Thank you
I've had lots of cardioversions and have never had the itching that your husband is experiencing. Was he put on any new medication pre having the procedure or have you changed your washing liquid?
I think I would call the hospital where he had it done and ask to speak to one of the AF nurses.

I've had 11 cardioversions and though the burn itches I've never had that. BUT I take antihistamines every other day as I am an itchy bird anyway with v sensitive skin. I use ceterizine, pretty cheap in generic form. Hope he feels better soon, I know how awful itching can be xx
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately he's one of the few who's allergic to cetirizine - something that always surprises the medics he comes in contact with.

No sorry. Skin burns yes treated with aqueous cream but never itching.
I've had multiple cardioversions but never had this reaction. I do get itchy skin though. If its very bad I try Piriton tablets and am a great believer in E45 Itch Relief Cream ! Worth a try!
yes, I had terrible itching before and after DC/CV but it was caused by Amiodrone.
After my CV I stayed on Amiodrone for about 4 weeks and I was still having an itch so I came off the Amiodrone and after a few weeks the itch stopped. I would never go back on Ami again as I never felt well while I was on that drug. It’s known to be a very toxic drug although very effective before a CV. I used sudocrem for my itch and it helped.
Does he take Xarelto? I had terrible hives and itching on this for two years.
Not related to Cardioversion though. Finally replaced by Elequis and itching went.
Everybody reacts differently to drugs. Hope he finds the cause and relief soon.
Usually itching is a sign of an allergic reaction. Maybe that's a possibility?
