Following on from previous posts regarding the cost cutting measures of replacing apixaban with edoxaban.I have just picked up my repeat prescription and have now been issued with the generic apixaban.

Seems like an excellent compromise!

Sounds like a good compromise to me too Cat.

I've been taking it for a few months now, it's now available as a generic since the maker's license expired.

This is the first time I've not had Eliquis. Looking forward to a smooth transition.

Who is making the generic or are several companies?

I think that Teva makes one, but I’ve just picked up my prescription and it’s Sandoz (matches my Bisoprolol!). Haven’t started into it yet, but the ‘excipients’ online are the same as Eliquis. Just a different colour of iron oxide in the coating. (Wish they didn’t add that, as I usually avoid any iron oxide due to tummy aches. It’s in all of them though.)

Thanks - I just wondered, because I have recently changed to Eliquis from Xarelto, having read on here that it was a better drug for A fib, Just before I changed, a generic for Xarelto was launched for the African market called iXarola( I live in South Africa). It is made by Bayer who make Xarelto, is in exactly the same box (except for the name printed on it) The pill looks exactly the same, just the foil it is in is slightly lighter and it's much cheaper. My pharmacist has not offered me a generic Eliquis yet (I don't know if it's available here), but of the originals Eliquis is slightly cheaper than Xarelto , and there are 30 pills in the pack instead of 28 as with Xarelto and its generic, which is much more sensible !

It might just be UK so far. There have been wranglings over the patent. juve-patent.com/cases/sando...

Mine is Sandoz too. No alert card included in the box.

Must open mine and check - though I have too many left over from the Eliquis!

I’ve found it - stuck on the inside of the box, and flimsy!

Well, I would never have found that if you hadn't told me! I'll have trouble writing my details that small too. 🤣

Good to hear - I have a call from GP Friday which I’m sure is to move me to Edoxaban - spoke to an EP during the week who is also on Apixaban and said he won’t be changing from Apixaban so that will be my answer

Changing to Edoxaban was r the best move I ever made. Zero side effects !!!!

I’ve just picked up my prescription to see I’ve been given the generic brand Teva. As already said the fillers are the same and in the same quantities except for the red vs yellow oxide. I wasn’t informed I was having the generic brand. I’m all for helping to save money for the NHS where I can. I would have certainly refused Edoxaban but I’m tempted to try this generic brand as fillers are in the same order and 🤞🏻the difference in oxide colour won’t affect me. I’m not being fussy but I do react to fillers. I have to have the accord brand of Flecainide because of that.

I'm happy to be issued with the generic apixaban (haven't started to take it yet but expecting no problems) but I wasn't happy to change to edoxaban.
