Just out of interest, what’s the longest anyone has stayed in normal sinus rhythm following a cardioversion ….?

My first cardioversion lasted 10 years. My second also around 10 years. Third 4-6 years. My fourth cardioversion didn't work, but I converted the next day naturally. During this period, with the exception of a few weeks following each cardioversion, I took no medications at all, including anti-coagulants, had no ablations, although I was offered one in the hospital after the second, third and fourth cardioversions. I'm sure there are some who have had one cardioversion that has lasted a lifetime, one of which may have been an old friend. Afib tends to be progressive, but it can progress very slowly and in some cases not at all. That's why I sometimes give pause when I see what I deem over and perhaps unnecessary treatment and medication after a single afib episode.

3 years 2 months so far .....

I'm on bisoprolol, which may be helping me stay in NSR, and an anticoagulant

I had 17 or so cardioversions in about 2 years. Stayed in NSR anywhere from a few weeks to 2 months or so, hence the repeated cardioversions. I've had 3 ablations, most recent Nov 2022, and this one seems to have done the trick. Knock wood.

Thanks everyone. Really interesting to hear about so many different outcomes . Good to see that it works so well for many of you. I’m 8 months and counting 🤞
