I am considering getting the ablasion treatment. Can anybody who's gone through this share their experience? Was it successful? Thanks.

Ablation is a common treatment and plenty of us have had more than one. It must be considered part of on going treatment as whilst some people are helped after the first it is recognised that it often needs to be repeated. There are a number of booklets and fact sheet available about the procedure on the main AFA website.

In my own case after three ablations over three years I was arrythmia free for over ten years.

The procedure itself is none surgical and done by a catheter, still invasive but certainly not open heart surgery. I’ve had two, first made things worse, second helped and stopped AF for about 3 blissful years but eventually returned. Lots of views on ablation but really you need to research what it is in detail and understand how it can help and know questions to ask your EP.

With knowledge then ask yourself if not ablation what? And if not now when?

Over the last eleven years I have had four ablations. The results have been amazing The procedure is quick, recovery in days and the results instant. They are also continuing to improve the procedures

I appreciate it may not be the same for everyone but I consider them like a magic bullet

Good luck

lots of research show that ablation is successful if done by an experienced team and your heart is suitable for it and you don’t have too many other comorbidities. It was a lot scarier in prospect than reality and in my case successful. Good luck

I had PAF with bradycardia so was advised that antiarrhythmic meds and cardioversion weren't an option so had my ablation 5 weeks ago and although the recovery has been frustratingly slower than all I had read and was told ahead of the procedure I'm so glad I did.

My resting heart rate can be anywhere between 10-30 bpm higher than it was which has taken a bit of getting used to and have had the odd spell of AF (first one a week after ablation and last one 8 days ago) but only midway through the blanking period so a little way to go yet but feeling so much better than I was before ablation.

I had mine done in June 22 for AF and Flutter, nirmal rythym from day one apart from one blip.Feel great! Hoping it holds for a long time but would have another if need be.

In the UK if you are offered one you can be fairly confident that you are a good candidate as its expensive to the NHS

Best wishes

mine worked great. Only one and AF disappeared for almost 10years.

I've had 3 ablations in the past 2 and a1/2 years. Hoping this 3rd one is the charm, as things have been steady for the last 4 months. It's not a painful procedure. I think most of the success with the outcome depends on skill of physician doing the procedure. I am assuming your cardiologist is an EP, or that an EP will do the procedure.

Wishing you much success!
