my husband had a mini maze procedure August 10 of 2022. He is still dealing with high heart rate. Is this normal?

Mini Maze procedure
I hear temporary atrial flutter is pretty common after the mini maze but that does not mean the procedure was not successful. You should really get in touch with whoever did it. Also, I would think a home ekg device like Kardia would be helpful here. That way you could share the ekg with your doctor so they will know what type of high rate you're dealing with.
Jim
thanks for your input Jim, he has a Kardia device which he uses twice a day and keeps really good records. He also has a loop recorder in his chest that does an EKG 24 seven. We are almost 6 months out on the mini maze electrophysiologist want to do a pacemaker. The surgeon wants to wait a little longer so we are kind of caught between two doctors.
it sounds to me like you had the Wolf Mini maze. If that is the case trust Dr Wolf and the process. He knows what he is doing and it will take some time to get to the finish line. Don’t go mixing doctors here especially an EP who doesn’t understand the mini maze process nor could he perform it even if he wanted to
How high?
Resting rate is within normal parameters. 123 may indicate sleep apnoea if regularly waking him during night. Has he had a sleep study done?
how high of a heart rate? Some who have had mini maze, especially if they have had prior ablations, can develop aflutter after the procedure. I would refer to your surgeon on this.
Having said that, I had the Wolf Mini maze I. June and my heart rate is average of about 80. I have been told that it can take up to a year for heart rate to settle.
How high is his heart rate? If it's over 100, his doctor should know about it ASAP.
Consult with the doctor who performed the minimaze. Seems like they would have contacted if loop recorder results were concerning.
The key is how long his heart rate stays at 123. If it is just a "spike" or "flutter" that may be normal for a period after the procedure. I don't know, just from reading.
It is my understanding that antiarrythmic drugs are sometimes prescribed for a period after the minimaze. Others know more and may opine.
But keep in mind, we are not doctors.
Check below link.
at 6 months he is still in the healing period which can take up to a year, his resting heart rate is in normal range but will likely still come down.
Each individual is different, my heart rate was low after my mini maze 50 resting and has gradually climbed to about 70 resting.
I would go with the surgeon at this point, they know their procedure.
