flecainide versus multaq
No sensible answer to that question as it depends on each individual. For sure for most people flecainide will be more efficatious compared with dronedarone (multaq) which has had some bad press over the years. Again you might ask which is best. Are apples better than pears?
I can only respond that I have had excellent results over the years with flecainide, but thats just me, cant speak for others. If I had to choose personally I would go for flecainide but then many swear by drondearone.
My side effects were flashing lights on moving from one darkened room to another which lasted a few days then no side effects whatsoever thereafter. I have taken it twice a day for some years now use it as pill in the pocket when needed pp my electrophysiologists advice. Hope you find the right meds for you.
I was on pill in the pocket Flecainide 100 mg when afib episodes were about every 2 weeks. Episodes became more frequent & MD changed dose to 50 mg twice a day. Another MD had recommended multaq. Took flecainide since no side effects when on pill in the pocket. It may be different when on a daily dose long term. MD didn't say whether flecainide should be monitored.
It also depends on how structurally sound your heart is. Flecainide requires a healthier heart.
Also, keep in mind that flecainide is often prescribed with either a beta blocker and calcium channel blocker for safety reasons. So you have to take into account the side effects of those drugs as well, but overall Flecainde seems well tolerated by most who qualify

Dronedarone made me awful. Lethargic. I'm fine on flecainide. But neither work for me.
Multaq was pretty effective for me, but within 3 months, caused my liver values to go completely out of acceptable range. This is a not uncommon & risky side effect. Since then, I’ve only been on Dilatiazem, which helps control heart rate.
