I have had AF for over 20 years. Have taken sotalol, for a few years, then metoprolol and Flecainide up to now in decreasing doses as over the last few years I have had 3 ablations. To completely give up taking medication I have been told I would need to do the 'Ablate and Pace' procedure. I would like to hear from people who have done this and if are they happy with the results.

Pace and ablate
My experience with flecainide was not good at all. I only took it for a week because it made my heartbeat faster.
I found the metoprolol affected me adversely. Made my muscles weak so I could hardly walk anywhere. I thought Flecainide was OK but it may have contributed to my adverse effects too. I have had 3 ablations and after each one I have been able to reduce my meds but at moment still take both in a small amount. My cardio doctor seems to think that seeing the meds are so low I should leave it at that at the moment. However my GP and the cardio doctor who does the ablations in Brisbane and who I would prefer to do my Pace and Ablate seems to think it is only way to cut out the troubling meds completely. I know I will still be on a blood thinner. I am on Eliquis. I have a pace maker already as the meds I was taking took my pulse down to the thirties and I could hardly walk 100 yards. I thought pace-maker would stop the AF but 2 weeks after the op I had an attack of AF. I would be interested in hearing from someone who has had the ultimate procedure, Pace and ablate!
You would still have to at least, stay on an anticoagulant

That was an encouraging post you indicated. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
I’m glad it was helpful. The problem with asking for comments on P&A is that once people have had it done we don’t hear from them again after their update, so it’s hard to get their attention!
