Experiencing Strange Feelings

Merry Christmas Everyone. I am writing on here as I feel this community of ours is the only reliable source of support that REALLY understands what I am talking about. My question is that I have had strange feelings for the last number of days that I have not felt ever from all my years managing AF. It feels like my heart is pounding all the time and beating very fast, breathlessness and experiencing being very warm almost sweating. When I check my pulse it is higher than usual but still within the normal. With that also comes bigeminy,s and trigeminy,s which could last for hours and I generally feel unwell. And I could also sleep the clock around. I have tried all the tricks that I know and even gave in to taking flecidine (PIP) but this sensation doesn’t leave me. Any suggestions or if anyone else had experienced this I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

It sounds similar to when I had atrial flutter. Try 111 or your GP when open as you may need a rate controller medication such as bisoprolol .Flecanide is not effective ,as its a rythym control drug.My flutter was worse lying down.

If it is flutter ablation is very effective, better than for AF.

Hope it settles soon.

Hi wilsond, Thanks for your response. Am on Bisoprolol 1.25mg for keeping the heart rate down and will definitely give my cardiologist a call to see if he thinks I need to be seen. Am the same it gets worse when lying down and also I have noticed a pain between left shoulder blade. It’s a nuisance and new feeling that I haven’t felt before. Will see how it feels these next few days. Thanks again

What are you measuring your heart rate with? I once measured mine when feeling exactly as you have described, felt hot, sweaty and for a while had to fight to keep conscious. Despite how I felt, my BP monitor said a fairly normal heart rate. Paramedics came took the pulse at my wrist, which was normal but when they strapped the ECG onto me it showed my heart rate sky high. When in hospital I asked the cardiologist if he had seen this before and he said yes. So be aware that your heart rate at wrist and top of your arm could appear normal, when you heart is actually racing.

After this episode, which has never happened again, I bought a stethoscope from Amazon. That is one thing I can really trust.

Because of how you are feeling, I would want to get it checked out. Perhaps dial the NHS 111 no. and seek their advice. If they feel it's needed they may send paramedics out to check your heart rate with an ECG.

Hi jeanjeannie50, Thanks your reply. I am keeping an eye on it with my iwatch and the wife is listening to the heart for rate and any abnormalities. So far no high heart rate but just that feeling as though my heart is pounding, breathlessness, sweating and feeling unwell. Am on Bisoprolol 1.25mg daily but I may take your advice on investing in a stethoscope. Thanks your response is always gratefully received.

Exactly the same as me in fact I thought I was suffering from a fib as my kardia kept saying possible a fib

It was all during the pandemic where any gp visit was almost impossible

Our surgery wasn't open for weeks.Felt very scared and alone. On the morning of the ablation at St Thomas's my heart rate was 140 though I didn't know as I was feeling anxious anyway

I have constant atypical flutter right now. When my heart rate is up I pretty much have what you mentioned. Right now I am on digoxin and in the past week my heart rate is out of tachycardia and very normal almost low. You actually described afib. Before I knew what it was I felt all of those symptoms. Do you have any other medical issues such as diabetes? That too will make you sleep a lot if your sugar is up. The best thing I would suggest is talk to a doctor it doesn’t sound good somethings sounds out of balance. You mentioned handling a fib perhaps with medication? My medication stopped working perhaps from being on it for so long. Our bodies do get used to having some thing in it and perhaps increasing is not enough. Best of luck please talk to a doctor.

Hi

Sweating is a symptom of thyroid problem/s.

I would askk for a scan on your thyroid.

Not sure of your meds are but I got those symptoms with Metropolol.

My AF was uncontrolled.

You say pulse is normal? Must be under 100 at rest. Also BP matters

123/70-80.

Runs of ectopic beats and a slightly fast rate often happen with me, sometimes with mild chest discomfort under my left ribcage and through to my back. Goodness knows what causes it - heart or stomach? It's unpleasant and creates anxiety which brings its own symptoms.

Atrial flutter is what started all my troubles of back in 2019. In typical AFl, the heart rate sticks as fixed rates, all a ratio of 300, so you might get a pulse of 50, 60, 100 or 150, for example, with no transition values in between.

If what you have is completely new to you and worrying, however, it's definitely a reason for an urgent discussion with a doctor.

Hi Trotter if it is any comfort to you I frequently get unpleasant feelings including hot sweats/breathlessness/feeling unwell both when in and out of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation.

I have them at the moment, I am getting daylong episodes of P-AF every other day now and waiting for a clinic appointment to discuss it.

I had a telephone clinic appointment on 16th of December, I didn't know my new smart phone was on mute, it didn't ring and I missed the call then spent 5 days trying to get another appointment or speak to an arrhythmia nurse . I finally managed to speak to a nurse and they will try to get me an appointment soon.

Having AF can be a nightmare ...
