I have been prescribed these antibiotics. I checked with the surgery because when researching g it it said my meds interacted moderately.. The chemist hadn’t got them in stock. But I found the leaflet that is in the box and most of my meds say that they could possibly overact with this medication. My doctor assured me that all my meds would be fine. But I am still unsure whether to take them. Any one else been on these antibiotics. Thanks

clarithromycin
It’s a difficult one because we all react differently, wonder if this would help you decide?

According to that list I shouldn’t take it ever because I have Mg but the list I have of drugs to avoid from the Mg association doesn’t Clarithromycin as a drug to avoid. ?????
Hi there, have just checked and there is one moderate interaction with verapamil and two food interactions. But there is another tablet called azithromycin but this can upset arrhythmia. But again only moderate. Thanks for the help.
To be honest you are probably more at risk of the infection for which you were prescribed the antibiotic of upsetting the arrythmia if you don’t take them, that has been my experience. Any sort of infection will induce inflammation which could antagonise any existing condition so dammed if you do or not.
I’m on my 3rd antibiotic this month for a persistent UTI and although had all sorts of other symptoms, no arrythmias.
Hi Gillybean
I have also been prescribed them 500mg for 3 weeks as l have an ongoing sinus infection. I have had the same concerns as yourself after reading the instruction as l also take sotalol and both drugs can cause QT prolongation
So l spoke to my GP today and he said not to worry as there would not be a problem taking them. The health center pharmacist had also checked against my existing medication.
I take Sotalol as well, there are a lot of medications that interact with it, so I have a list of drug interactions from NICE, that I keep on my phone and if I am prescribed a new drug, I always check it first, because, as you say, you can get a dangerous reaction from mixing some drugs. There are some antibiotics that are perfectly ok with Sotalol, hope you get one of those. There’s a shortage at the moment, with this Strep A around.
To be honest it is very confusing and I'm not sure if as l been suffering from pains in my left side and chest for over a week. I phoned my doctors surgery on Friday and they told me to go to A&E which l did.
I had an ECG and bloods taken and told l was having a heart attack so nothing was found to explain these chest pains. Although the doctor treating me in A&E thought it could be unstable angina.
I have an appointment with my own GP this afternoon to discuss these pains during which l will speak to him again about whether this medication is causing me to have these pains. Sorry if l not able to give you a proper answer.
Sorry correct told l was not having a heart attack.
Talk to the pharmacist, he will know more
