Why 24 hour heart monitor?

I had a phone call today room St Thomas’ hospital that got cut off due to poor signal, hopefully they will phone back tomorrow.

I had my 2nd ablation 2 weeks ago and all the doctors had gone home by the time I got back to the ward but my discharge report said that one previous area had reconnected and they had found a new area which was successfully ablated. Apart from manic 48 hours my heart is behaving very well.

The lady who phoned said that my consultant had ordered a 24hour monitor, she seemed to have no idea why. I am 2-3 hours from London in East Kent and I just wonder if this was meant to be pre-op. Has anyone had a monitor after the ablation and I am slightly worried that they are concerned from my op but nothing in the post op notes.

I would take the monitor, probably your EP is edging on caution and they will want to see a trace throughout the 24hour which will give them a better idea of what’s going on with your heart.

If there is a difficulty travelling you can always ask for it to be posted or if your GP could arrange?

24 hour monitor will provide a thorough heart evaluation pertaining to AF, rhythm, and all.

By all means take advantage of the opportunity.

hi I had an Ablation end of Sept 2022 and just had a Holter device for 72 hrs as my EP wanted to check on my heart as I appear to be having lots of etopics, but he wanted to check if I had actually flipped from Flutter to AFib. So I was grateful he was being proactive. My hospital is an hour from me.

I had one after my stroke in Feb 18, nothing detected, had first symptomatic AF episode May 20, had monitor again after episode had ended again nothing picked up diagnosed PAF.24 monitor don't detect if in NSR, but I wouldn't worry, doctor just erring on side of caution which tells me they are showing due diligence

Hi Linkj , I had a 7 day heart monitor 12 weeks after my second ablation ( radio frequency ) but not after the first cryoablation . May vary on consultant protocol etc .

hi Ozzie, that’s exactly what I needed to hear. My first ablation was a cryoablation and this one was radiofrequency. I’m under the care of St Thomas’ hospital London, they are awesome but communication not so good!!
