It was all going so well......

I had my ablation at the end of August and all went well. After 4 weeks, in agreement with the EP and my arrhythmia nurse, I stopped my 1.25 dose of bisoprolol and felt SO much better. Heart rate was quite fast but in NSR.

Last Thursday AF reappeared - a brief visit and mild symptoms but most unwelcome. Over the last few days I have had very few NSR results on the Kardia, most of the readings are in the 90s and showing as 'unclassified'. I presume some other arrhythmia has come along?

Will I be stuck with this or is it part of the healing process? Why is it happening after 10 weeks?

Anyone else experienced a similar turn of events?

All comments/advice gratefully received.

I have my 3 month review next Monday but it's by phone so they won't even be checking what my pulse is up to!

Hi, It may settle down again but if this is your first ablation it is quite common to need a follow up ablation that the EPs call a touch up procedure, usually done by RF (radio frequency). You may be required to go back on the meds until such an appointment for a follow up is available. Usually the second procedure does the trick and the touch up is not as harsh as the first one, at least it wasn’t in my case. Don’t despair they will be on your case. Also your still early days regarding your ablation so like I said it may settle down again. All the best !

Thanks for your encouragement. I was hoping to get away with just the one procedure but am very aware that touch ups are often required. On a positive note the AF is far less severe than prior to the ablation. However I am anxious to know what the other arrhythmia is that's producing the 'unclassified' readings on the kardia.

My unclassified for months was in fact flutter.Kardia doesn't look for that.I only found out as I had ecg at hospital.

Did it clear or are you stuck with it?

I had an ablation in Mat which I thought was for a fib but once awake I was told they could only find flutterI will ask Prof Gill.when I get my call.

I found that when I came off beta blockers, I had to do it extremely slowly. The EP told me just to stop but when I did that my BP went too high. He was happy for me to come off at my own rate, taking my own BP regularly. It took me a year but everyone is different.

One of my main motivations for the ablation was to be rid of the beta blocker. I've always had low blood pressure & the BB made it worse - I felt spaced out and permanently sedated. Blood pressure has been fine but I know for others this is a big issue.

Hi can I ask did they give you a date for your call as I had ablation at St Thomas's in May and have got a call on Dec 5th 7 months later.I was told 3 months.I only got that because I chased it up twice.

I didn't have to chase it up, I was notified a couple of weeks ago. I'm disappointed it's only a phone call though as I would like someone to look at my kardia readings & tell me what's going on. Also, I thought it would have been standard practice to do an ECG at this point.
