Hrt and Atrial fibrillation
I’m convinced my Af and afl are linked to peri menopause and subsequent menopause, along with other triggers. Eventually I tried hrt and it was like a miracle, no af for the 11 months I was taking it for unfortunately my gp recommendation was to stop at 60 due to increased risks. Within 3 months palpations , hot sweats and af had returned. Since stopping hrt I’ve had multiple af episodes, and have now been in Afl since May awaiting surgery. I know this is only my experience but found when ever I mentioned the link to my EP I was poo pooed. However I’m sure there’s a link and as a piece of research could be immensely beneficial.
I use them now at 53 with no trouble.
I’m OK on HRT so far. My cardiologist knows and wasn’t concerned. You need to have regular BP and other monitoring on HRT and the decision to prescribe depends entirely on the individual risk factors of the patient and that can change over time. I am prescribed HRT because I have osteoporosis. I also know I can’t take it forever and I’ll have to stop at some point. The decision to take HRT is all about the relative risks so you need to discuss it with the prescribing doctor.
