As you lovely people were so kind reassuring and helpful during my recent meltdown, I thought I’d let you know what happened today. I had an echo and then an ecg after which I was seen by a very nice cardiologist for results. The high BNP is due to persistent AF, my heart remarkably in good shape with an ejection factor of 55 which is normal. The problem with fatigue and shortness of breath they think is due to uncontrolled raised blood pressure . I now have to have a 24hour BP check with a view to either upping current dosage of Losartan or adding another tablet. My blood pressure always been a nightmare to control, but he seems to think that the problem has to be sorted. The diagnosis was very mild heart failure with normal ejection fraction which with blood pressure treatment can be reversed. All in all a favourable result. Thank you everyone for your help.

That sounds like a pretty decent update. I take Losartan with HCTZ and keeps my BP at a good level. Losartan has heart protective effects in addition to helping BP.

I don't know your full history, but have there been attempts at NSR, either through cardioversion/medication, ablation, mini maze etc? Much easier said than done, but long term NSR would help as well. Just as an fyi, I was found to have sleep apnea and the cpap has helped immensely at reducing AFib episodes.

Thanks BobsBeat . I did see an EP some years ago but decided not to have ablation, cardio version never offered . Have been in permanent AF for long time now so not an option.

Great news! I can say that I feel much better for having another blood pressure medication added. Good luck 🍀

Hi

Good that you are being sorted.

It was a CCB Diltiazem 120mg am which put BP and HR right. With Bisoprolol at night.

Do let us know.

My energy gradually came back. After BP and AF and hR controlled.

so pleased for you.We all have occasional melt downs .I had one Thursday and don't know whether to address the problem or accept as

If you have a meltdown then you feel dreadful afterwards for not being able to cope but don’t forget that A/F means that your body knows something is wrong and it can make you feel anxious which is not helpful. Maybe if the problem is something you can do something about then possibly you should but if there is nothing you can do then all you can do is face it and put it behind you. Good luck.

That sounds like a really reassuring outcome. Your cardiologist sounds as though he’s well & truly on your case! I’m sure he’ll be able to treat your BP for you.

Congratulations on your good news. I am very envious as after 4 years af free, the mongrel has returned with a vengeance.

I think mine is mainly anxiety related but food and drink aren't helping

It's OK to have a melt down. I'm in the middle of one now but today is a new day so fingers crossed it gets better.

oh sorry to hear it’s returned. Although I am in permanent AF one of the best things I ever did was to cut out all caffeine and alcohol although stopping smoking is proving more difficult for me. I also eat minimal salt.

oh bless you. I too gave up caffeine and alcohol 4 years ago and I managed to give up smoking by going cold turkey. To be honest I didn't have much choice as I got taken into hospital with no money or cigarettes!

I think sugar may be next which will cut out biscuits and tea/decaf . That leaves nothing!

That was a positive appointment and as you say if the BP can be controlled better your heart will be happier.

Take care, Jackie

You must be feeling relieved with the outcome of your consultation. It's normal to have meltdowns with this horrible condition. Here there are plenty sympathisers and people who have gone through the same thing and can reassure and give good advice.

no they didn’t but funnily enough in my area I have been invited for a lung cancer CT scan at a local mobile unit next week so if any probs that will show it up. Fingers crossed all will be well.

I wish I had seen your earlier post as I to have had an echocardiogram, my doctor rang to say that my aortic valve is calcified, meaning oxygenated blood is not being circulated properly around my body and I have a leak backwards.

Now waiting for a call from rapid cardiology department to see if anything can be done, not too hopeful as I’m a type 2 diabetic, no treatment diet controlled, high blood pressure plus arthritis etc.

I am 82 , has anyone out there got any positive feedback for me please.

Here’s hoping hatten28
