I'm convinced that artificial sweeteners were the cause of my AF. I was putting them in my tea and coffee, eating them in what I thought were healthy yogurts, having sugar free lemonade and chewing gum. Was also unwittingly having them in my lunch at work.

We were all convinced that this was the right thing to do to keep slim. Now I see them as pure poison! It took me years to discover they were the cause. Now I do my best not to eat any type of food that has artificial additives of any kind.

and just to think our beloved health secretary's would have known all this information Jean. It gives me the creeps. As bob says he is surprised aspartame got a licence , i am not.

Aspartame is the devils spawn and should be avoided like an STD. How it ever got licensed is beyond me as it causes so many problems for millions of people. My wife put me on them around '94 (so they may well have caused my AF too Jean) but took me off after a year or so because she said my personality had changed and I had become agressive and uncaring.

The scary thing is that aspartame is used in some tablets. I was prescribed calcium/vitamin d chewable tablets last week. Had a half as I was concerned, within an hour I was in AF for 17 hours. Also they are in Gaviscon chewable tablets. I agree it is them devils spawn Bob.

could you elaborate please Bob - what do you mean by 'my wife put me on them'?

On what?

My wife, who always seems to be well ahead of the game in terms of nutrition, has demonised Aspartame as long as I can remember. She can instantly taste it in anything in which it is lurking and refuses to eat or drink it.

She started giving me sweetners rather than sugar .

I didnt see any mention of stevia in the tested sweetners. Is it OK?

My heart bleeds for all those youngsters who turn to the likes of Red Bull to get them through life. They drink two or three daily and it really isnt good for them.

Part of me wants to go to the big supermarket chains and sweep them off the shelves with my arms!

I tell everyone that will listen about the perils of Aspartame.

My Arrhythmia nurse went ballistic when I said I drank Red Bull on long road trips to keep me awake. Not touched it for 15 years now.

I used to work in a hotel bar part time and it was my boss who warned me. He wouldnt sell "diet versions" for that reason!

I am an avid food label reader. You can hear deep mutterings of discontent when I see these disgusting poisons in stuff. The shelves are full of it. I spread the word far and wide that its very bad for you. My boss never listens and our fridge at work is full of cola with it in. I tried!😟

I’ve noticed artificial sweeteners creeping into non diet products alongside sugar. Presumably this is to get round the sugar tax.

I see more and more of these sweetners added to foods and drinks. It's criminal. 😡
