Can only help. Both are poison.

Giving up all junk is going to be helpful - artificial sweeteners, flavourings, colourings and so called flavour enhancers. I ditched the lot at diagnosis - don't know that it stopped AF but it certainly helped my drugs to stop episodes.

Ouch ! I like my coffee's in the morning and a few cups of tea thought the day. All taken with sweeteners. Must have about 7 or 8 a day.

Maybe Mal it's time for us both to stop taking them. I think we'll soon get used to not taking them in our cuppa's. Maybe a week or so and we won't notice the difference.

I've cut out suger and my 'sweetex' from B&M are going in the bin !

Good call Paul as most can promote AF I understand.

Stopping taking artificial additives and especially sweeteners greatly reduced my AF attacks. Unfortunately I'd been using them in my drinks, in what I thought were healthy yoghurts, lemonade, sugar free gum etc. I'd been taking them for a long time and the damage was done before I realised the cause. However my AF is so much better without them.

What do you consider artificial? I ask because while I've ditched most of these things including MSG plus anything with salt added I do use stevia. I don't feel it's doing me any damage and it does come from natural sources but...?

All this does make it difficult to eat in restaurants unless you let yourself be known as a good tipper such that they want to please you.

I take the 80/20 attitude - having gone 2 years completely ‘clean’ of all sugar, sweetners, flour and gluten and dairy for autoimmune diseases and feeling much better - I now do take a little sugar as a treat - still avoid all sweetners! Once your body is completely clear of any substance for a period of time, I found I can have the occasional ‘treat’.

Christmas time is always an exception but back on the cleanse by mid Jan.

I do have one cup of good coffee every morning (no sugar or sweetener) and have no affects.

Artificial sweeteners are also found in such things as cough syrup, cough candies, tooth paste, gum , vitamin C tablets etc. I read the back of all items now in order to avoid artificial sweeteners. Since doing this I have been free of afib for over 18 months and have had only one episode in the previous 18 months. Paying attention to diet, adding magnesium, CoQ10, VD and VK and exercise in the form of a peaceful daily walk have helped me greatly. Wishing all good health and peace in the New Year!

What are VD and VK? Google didn't have an answer.

I *never* knowingly use artificial sweeteners (hate them!). I still get AF.

Hi MalJam, I never use artificial sweeteners but I have had my AF triggered by MSG. I read labels diligently and do not frequent restaurants where AF was triggered after eating there.
