Taken off amiodarone

Just to let people know that I have been told to stop taking amiodorane. I've persevered for 7 days but the nausea is now so bad that I cannot keep water down. I'm told it should take just a few days to get out of my system. My heart rate had also gone down to 50. I'm waiting for my cardiologist to decide what next but afib has to be better than amiodorane poisoning. I do wish it was different,so disappointed.

O dear, that is disappointing. At least you’ve tried so now your docs have to come up with something else, I hope.

Just had a letter to say that I'm on the list for an ablation. No idea how long I will have to wait, but feel that I'm now getting somewhere.

That's a shame and you have been unlucky, I think. I'd just read a large study in which the writers concluded that amiodarone, at lower doses used these days, was very safe. It was something I would have had to take if my ablation for atrial flutter hadn't come along when it did. I have less luck with drugs in general than others seem to, though, for some reason. I had read that this can be to do with the way some of us metabolise different drugs.

I have been on Multaq for 2+ years now until my last procedure. I have to be honest I don’t believe I’ve ever had problems with it. Like you the amiodarone was horrible to say the least. I believe I told you they saturated me with a large bag of it following an ablation while I was still in the hospital. By the time I went home that night I was covered with a rash and that was just the beginning yes it was an itchy rash as well. The nausea and just overall horrible feelings kept me curled up in a ball most of the time I only moved when I needed to although laying in the ball did not help I guess it’s just some thing we do. I was on it for four months I was supposed to be on it for six but I begged my doctor to let me stop. I don’t know why once you are on it they do not want you to stop I guess it’s because your sinus rhythm is where it belongs. Also yes within a couple of days I felt human after stopping amiodarone I wish you the best and hope it clears out of you as fast Ask your doctor about MULTAQ we are all different but maybe it will work for you. My last ablation had worked for 15 months I believe that because I was wondering serious stressed and upset that I went back into full a fib. I just had a procedure the end of April and the first three months were insane and awful but now each day I am doing better. The one crazy thing is it in the morning I am in a fib according to the numbers but by afternoon I am fine. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen. Thanks for the reply. Just one point, I'm in the UK so medical treatment is free but can be slow with long waiting lists for procedures. Knowing how I felt, you are amazing to have tolerated amiodorane for as long as you did.

I use to be slow to speak up. No longer. It was all so new I did not realize there were choices. Never again, I speak up now lol.

Well NHS is paid for by national insurance contributions by us( majority of population) so we are paying their wages!You keep banging tables xxx

Sorry to hear that. It is strange how this drug is so toxic to some people but tolerated by others. I hope you recover soon and find a something that works for you.

Really sorry to hear that the side effects from the amiodarone were challenging for you. Hopefully other anti-arrythmic options can be presented to you post haste while you wait for the ablation.Keep safe

Thanks. I've tried them all now and can't tolerate any of them. Hopefully this will strengthen my case for a reasonably urgent ablation.
